Blackberry PIN & messenger services

Had a BB for some time now,
A friend recently bought a newer model than my 8310
and wanted to invite me to use her messenger service

I went to install the messenger on mine and it wouldn't
(Device not new enough or something)
can I get a version to work on my older phone,

and does PIN require any further software to work or is it the same on all BB

Your PIN is your individual cell phone's identifier. I don't know if hackers can do anything with it but you might want to delete it from a public thread.

I use it all the time and it works well, and is free anywhere in the world.

That said I have a 9700...

I have an earlier 8310 and only yesterday corresponded with a BB geek to confirm it works,
My berry is too old an OS to support messenger so it might be time for either an OS/handset upgrade to enjoy messenger,

bah humbug!
