Wife Beater ?

So Souk says,

What exactly is the point of the wife beater? I feel naked without an undershirt on for the reason cited...plenty of people buy them I guess, but is there an original intent?

Maybe we should ask Hanes.

What say you all on the topic?

A wife beater says something about you. So if you want that said, buy a wife beater.

I don't see the point either. I wear a real undershirt under everything, year round.

I wear wife beaters when I'm putting on a casual button-up shirt and don't feel like sporting the chest hair look.

Traditional undershirts here...always. I thought the main reason was to keep the overgarmet clean and free of sweat stains, espically under the arms.

Different styles for different parts of the country. In CA no one wears a sleeveless undershirt under any circumstances unless they have no idea of what CA culture is. It's like NO one wears loafers w/o socks in CA unless they came from the East Coast or some planet. We CA natives can spot a transplant in a New York minute.

Also, when it's hot, you don't need to exacerbate the problem by wearing more clothing. Wear the dress shirt w/o undergarments and change it if you need to. I have bought some dress shirts in the past that were thin and required an undershirt to look decent as mentioned above.

I threw them away.

OK, I'm intrigued. What else makes you stand out?

(I still think a lot of those guys on Cops come from California. )

I'm a NY'r and I never wear undershirts or loafers with socks, (unless it's cold out).

NY'rs fold their pizza.

LOL

When I was in Peru a few years ago I went to Calles des las Pizzas

Basically " Pizza Street" which is a two or three block stretch on on street where there are only pizza parlors..

We ordered a pie... when it was delivered, I grabbed the crust, pulled out a slice, folded it and started in..

My companion was horrified that I used my hands and not a knife and fork to eat the slice..

I shrugged and thought... Lima Peru is not the Pizza paradise NYC is

LOL

Let Dave eat with a fork and knife.

That stuff they eat outside the N. East is pizza in name only.

It's the water.

Can't make dough in other parts of the country like you can in the NE.

Bagels, bread, pizza, not the same.

Really.... want to go there?...

I go to Patsy's Grimaldis, Lombardis, Totonos, the famous, and not so famous places....

That Pizza I had in Beijing could have come out of the oven of Patsy's in Harlem...

The Pizza in Lima was more of Chicago style... which, well... is not really Neapolitan Pizza..

Agree that you cant get a bagel like a Ludlow St bagel..

I have a few. I don't wear them to work. I don't wear them in the summer. I don't wear them under casual clothing.

The only time I wear them is in the winter when I need to be outdoors for a long time and mobile. They can be used as part of a layering scheme that allows a lot of arm movement. That's why I bought them.
