tried to do a search. all i can find it that it is perfectly SAFE! except the most information seems to be..yup. on ZIPLOCK's very own website.
i also cover things with plastic saran wrap stuff to microwave.. do i need to re-think this?

I'm convinced the microwave is killing us, and using it with plastic accelerates this process.
I still use it.

entertaining the idea

I have microwaved corn in a ziplock bag on a few occasions and lived to tell the tale.
It's probably not too bad if not done daily.

Webb is gonna come along and tell us the plastic out gasses. Why not use oven rated glass anyway?
BTW, I never cover anything. Sure, I have to wipe the inside down more, but I'm lazy about covering. Throw the food on a plate and nuke it. Need to get one of those spinners. Mine died. |

Cover with a coffee filter to keep microwave clean. They are cheaper than paper towels.

see..i'm talking about a chinese pork bun or other baked goods. i freeze them in ziploc, bring to office..nuke em for a snack.
most food is in glass, which i cover with a damp paper towel for the trip thru the m-wave.

The problem with BPA isn't that it kills you, it just makes you sterile....
![]() I still haven't decided if that is good or not, the jury is out on my want for kiddos.... |

Particulates from microwaved coffee filters can be inhaled into the lungs, eventually causing a form of microwave-induced mesothelioma.
I would contact a lawyer now.

DOPs would be easily tasted if they were gassing out - you may melt the plastic though. Microwave oven excite the water molecules. In certain cases you can have localized heat that is way above the glass transition temp or even the melting point of various plastics - heck it some instances it could exceed the decomposition temp then you would have some issues.
I wouldn't worry so much about the plastisizers as I would the decomp product of the various polymers. Years ago (in grad school) we carried out many polymerizations and de-polymerizations in aqueous phase using microwaves. There has been a ton of study in this field. http://www.schubert-group.de/publications/PDF/Papers/Wiesbrock2004_1.pdf ScienceDirect - Polymer : Rapid microwave induced depolymerization of polyamide-6

I'm no expert but my experience with certain electronic component products leads me to believe most, if not all, plastics outgass something. Zapping it and high heat only accelerates that.
So do you want that "something" in your food or not? I don't. I'd take it out of the plastic bag it's frozen in if possible.

Yer gonna suffer an early death if you keep sweating the small stuff and worrying about stuff like ziplocks in microwaves.
Life is fatal, it kills everyone. The only way you can keep from dying is to be already dead. Enjoy the ride. |

when food is in contact with most soft plastics - food grade or not - BPA will migrate into the food; this will be greatly accelerated at high temperatures BPA is known to cause developmental abnormalities, and .... ready for this boys??? acts as a synthetic estrogen so your sperm count may well decline (on avg. an adult US male today is 1/4 the man his grandpa was) and some other things might happen too also, don't smoke pot - similar reason (and it was a lot of fun to announce that in class and see all the guys in the back of the big lecture hall suddenly WAKE UP) easy fix - remove the food, put in on a plate* or in a bowl* (non-plastic ones, ok) and then microwave * for you bachelors, those are things that your gf tries to get you to put food in before eating it - and, no, I have no idea why they think it is important to do that |

We need to seal our borders:
Mexican border - need 1969 miles of zip lock. Canadia border - need 5525 miles of zip lock.

Maybe 5 to 10 years ago but the plastics community is a buzz with all this. Some are platisizing with vegetable oils while others are making polymers with more soft linkages. There is a ton of work going on in this field. No one wants to have the label "May Increase Your Chances of Sterility or Cancer" on their products. I wouldn't want to be a DOP salesman! Still, I do agree with you - I would rather heat something up in glass.
