From the article: And it now appears that the city no longer has the cash.

Lawyers happened..the US is awash in bored pretenders who will challenge, in their minds from a legal perspective, a sunset.

Common sense has been adjudicated.

I expect we will be seeing a lot more of this, even though it is blatant theft by the government.

"Jesus Martinez received a certified letter last weekend from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Dated Dec. 2, the letter states the Department of Homeland Security/Immigrations and Customs Enforcement seized the money from Aurora, and that the cash is subject to forfeiture under U.S. codes dealing with drug transactions."

Incredible. Outright theft.

maybe there are other facts here than what the news media has put out so far - we'll see

however, NEVER consent to a search - and good police officers are very good at gaining consent, so watch out

Yes, we must assume that. There is no law against having money. Jesus shouldn't have to prove anything.

Isn't that against the law? Ithought the counterfeiting statutes specifically contain a prohibition on photocopying currency unless it is reduced or enlarged a specified percentage from actual size.

Hope the city and DHS get slammed on this. Course the problem is that we, the tax payers end up paying the bill so this is a POS situation.

Hope it turns out ok for the family.

Noe the city says they gave the money to the state police since Jesus was being monitored for possible drug activity. Still...no charges.

And this is why you don't consent to search...

Kind of like when the IRS checks out the kind of house you live in then check your income and audit you because there is no way you could live in a 400k house making 50k a year. Maybe it's because I buy used cars and don't piss it a way on endless vacations. It's none of their business period.
