A good Best Buy return/exchange

I walked into Best Buy at 10:04 this morning with my Kenwood Head Unit for my car, which had a faulty RCA output;

I did not bring back the dash mounting sleeve and the bluetooth mic or the harness, which I had already mounted in the car.

The girl let me go get a brand new one, swap out the parts from new box/old box, and walk out of the store with a brand new package, sans the parts I hadn't returned.

Out of the store at 10:15.

So . . . . it can be done with good luck and good timing and good attitude. SmileWavy

What time are you meeting her for dinner?

I bet she didn't know about the IROC tat!

That's why I buy there. Return anything you want within 30 days no questions asked. Same with Wal-Mart.

Wonder how many backstage passes that cost!? :)

Had the same experience just yesterday at Fry's. A lot of people dislike the major retailers. Hard to disagree with a "30-day, no questions asked" policy though.

Did you get her number too?

Yeah, it's a cool thing when mom works at Best Buy!

They do take stuff back - for a 15% restocking fee.

My last return to BB took 2 months, about 6 phone calls, 2 letters and multiple emails. Eventually I received my 15% back. Salesperson told me there was no restocking fee on open box items, apparently he was wrong. In the end I won the argument but now I only use BB to view products up close and then buy on the internet.

edit - someone beat me to it - didn't see the above post before replying.

Not true about BB - you need to review their return policy again.
It took me about 2 hours of haggling with the BB store manager when I returned a Canon DSLR about a year ago. They wanted to charge me a 15% restocking fee on a $600 purchase - even though I complained that the product was malfunctioning.

From their site below:
Returning In-Store Purchases

You can return or exchange in-store purchases at any Best Buy store. Bring the original receipt and your photo ID. A restocking fee may be applied for opened items in some product categories.

Return and Exchange Period

You can return or exchange purchases within the timeframes below.

* 14 days for computers, monitors, projectors, camcorders, digital cameras, and radar detectors
* 30 days for all other products
* 45 days for all products for Reward Zone Premier Silver members*

Kinda don't blame em on the restock fee. You'd be shocked how many people treat big boxes with lax return policies as short term rental outlets.

You know, like you've got a big project going that needs a couple a few extra hi end PC's to turn into a rendering farm for a few days after which they'd just sit in a corner collecting dust and never be used again which if purchased outright would wreak massive fuchage on the projects ROI but the 15% fits the budget? Buy a $1,500 box or "rent" 4 of them for half the price.

Know a guy who used to buy $1,000 lenses to take to concerts. He'd shoot the show and would return the lens the next day.

Whatever, you got the rock star treatment. Just because you and Tommy Lee can get away with that crap, doesn't mean us mere mortals can get out of there in less than an hour and several ruptured blood vessels...

Joeaksa 12-10-2010 06:14 AM

Even better is Costco. Hard to beat their "return anytime if you are not happy" policy. This is not on everything but most items.
