Importance of thermostat "jiggle-valve"?

Off topic.....for my daily / winter driver Corolla. Needed to replace the thermostat.

The OEM piece had a small hole at the 12 0'clock position of the thermostat flange. This hole has a loose-fitting one-way check valve installed...can't be more than 1/16-1/8" in diameter. The Stant , defined replacement for this thermostat doesn't have this one-way valve. Is it there simply to aid getting all the air out of the system?. I'm right in the middle of this ( stopping my work for tonite having taken everything apart.....tomorrow or later I can put it all back together). So...I have an opportunity to hunt down another replacement part that has such a valve...if it's important.

Is it ?......

....

Can't give you a definitive answer, but I had a nightmare with bleeding Stant thermostats on a 87 Golf. The water pump was at the bottom with the thermostat straight up. Stant, Chiltons, and the dealership(which was the final replacement) all had different temp specs.
Tried filling them up seperately, running with cap off, sqeezing hoses, running jacked front and back, etc.

These websites both say drill an 1/8" hole at 12 o'clock to help get the hot water past it and allow it to open. Probably works as a small pressure relief for the pump as well.

Hi sir Wil Ferch, do you know a link to a more detailed instruction on how to replace a thermostat? Somehow, more specific to replacing thermostat of a corolla. I'm afraid to commit a mistake, the one on my link is a general how to and I'm not sure if it's everything that I need to do.

My a/c is going nuts this previous week. The first thing that I noticed was the vinegar smell that it gives off. After a week,it automatically shuts down. Then this week,it won't get cold anymore. I don't know what the problem is,but I want to try this fix from how to repair an a/c system. It's so hard to determine what is causing this.. Has anyone experienced this?
