Would You Rather Be Gifted in Math or Prose?

If you could be gifted, which would you choose?

bell 12-14-2010 08:32 PM

i am gifted.......
but i picked numbers.....as math is the basis for all things.....from astrophysics to bra sizes.......

Jrboulder 12-14-2010 08:34 PM

Sometimes neither. I know a lot of people who are very smart (quite a few who are gifted). Most of them are very akward to be around and a lot of them get bad grades. I am the same way. I scored the highest in the class in the mathematical aptitude test in the honors math class at a very acedemic high school but I had one of the worst grades in the class.

Words for me... (just read some of my posts :()

Tobra 12-14-2010 08:42 PM

I wish I were a more proficient mathlete, key to the universe, math is.

You don't get to pick though, the high score for me on the SAT was for verbal.

Gogar 12-14-2010 08:47 PM

Good words can get you out of a bad math situation. Much less so in the other direction.

masraum 12-14-2010 08:49 PM

I didn't vote. I'm pretty darn sharp in math. I can get my point across, but I'm certainly no poet or wordsmith.

I wanted to vote both. I'd like to be a renaissance man. I'm more gifted on the math/science side of things, but I really love creative stuff (unfortunately, not very good at any of it).

Yup!

madmmac 12-14-2010 08:51 PM

Talking numbers don't get you laid.

I think you know my vote.

Drdogface 12-14-2010 08:59 PM

At my age math is not gonna be very useful day to day. I'd rather be able to write really well.

Schumi 12-14-2010 09:29 PM

Words are man's doings, and entirely subjective by culture and time.

Math is not.

sc_rufctr 12-14-2010 09:35 PM

Maths can be taught...

Words??? Anyone can be taught the basics but real world usage... Not so sure.
More of a gift than anything else.

BTW: Interestingly Einstein always said he was bad at maths. :D

pwd72s 12-14-2010 09:35 PM

Math, I suppose....but then, prose didn't hurt some folks. Hemingway, et al. On the other hand, behind every successful writer are thousands who didn't make it.

porsche4life 12-14-2010 10:07 PM

I can do math when I feel like it. I'm not the craftiest with words though. I agree with Gogar, you can talk yourself out of about anything if you are good enough.

Noah930 12-14-2010 11:03 PM

I'm Asian. I didn't have a choice in the matter.

Mr.Puff 12-14-2010 11:39 PM

Numbers, I am not artsy.

Maybe the class bored U?

Einstein said, "Math is the language of God."
With math you always know how the story is going to turn out at the end.

oldE 12-15-2010 02:48 AM

We spend most of our lives communicating with others.
Although the language of numbers can be beautiful, most people understand words.

I see most people here assumed by "words" you mean the written word. If I had a choice I wish I were better at the spoken word. I can write, I am good enough at math to have gotten and engineering degree, but I would rather set fire to my 'nads than give a speech in public.
