Cablevision Question

In the attic there is a cable splitter. I believe it has 5 or 6 outputs. Can I come off one of those outputs with another splitter, say for 2 more outputs? Will it work or does Cox have to come out and "do what they do?"

You can always try it, as I think it will work.

What do you have? One cable home runned from the interface to the attic with a splitter at the end? And now you want to add more outlets, but have no more connections left on the original splitter?

You can introduce a splitter. It will degrade the signal strength to each tv. If the runs are short enough, it should not prove to be a problem, but for longer runs, you will likely notice it.

If you have an outlet nearby you can run inline signal boosters.

Also a good practice to terminate unused/open connections on the spliter

In line signal boosters? Where would I find something like that. I did try it and didn't work.

Radio Shack, Home Depot, Lowes, they all have em & cable too.. stomachmonkey nailed it . I have done this with no problem and the booster is the key..

So at what point do they plug in at?

Steve Viegas 12-17-2010 06:20 PM

I am not sure I would recommend a booster. They will boost signal and noise.

Was the splitter of the correct frequency?

do you have cable internet? This is where you will notice a problem. I have 6 TVs and internet and after countless calls of slow erratic internet, they came out and had to run a special direct line to my modem and then split it off for the tvs.

Jagshund 12-17-2010 06:39 PM

Shouldn't be a problem with the internet if you run your network's modem from the first split rather than down the line.

Cable and Internet from Cox. We have cable to 3 bedrooms and the den but wanted to add it to one more room. My Internet is all wireless. Cox wants $90 to come do just one drop.
