tranferring 8mm to digital video

Anyone done this? I have lots of 8mm film reels that I want to tranfer to .mpegs, or .wmvs or anything. What do I use? I dont mind using a service to do this as I dont have the projector anymore either! But, assuming i could find one, anyone know how?

I bought a machine to transfer over slides to .jpegs and it worked great!

I've tried to do the same thing projecting our old family 8mm and Super 8 Film onto a screen, then using a Mini-DV camcorder to record it.........the synch rate of the film projector to the capture rate of the Camcorder made an ugly transfer with a rolling bar up/down on the final copy and I gave up after trying different "scene" modes on the cam-corder and only 10-20 minutes of transfer........just didn't work for me.

I'm open to ideas, paying a service to do it is crazy expensive.

Check out costco. They seem to be reasonable.
