FedEx rant - can someone explain this?

So I have a package to be delivered by FedEx and I go to check the tracking info.

It's supposed to be delivered on 12/22 but I guess it got to the local facility early on 12/20 and they put it on the truck for delivery.

"Awesome," I thought, "I'll actually get it early."

To my surprise, FedEx brought it back to the facility and appears to be holding it until the estimated delivery date, 12/22. I do not believe they tried to delivery. No note at our house.

Does this seem messed up to anyone else or is it just me?

See tracking info for yourself:

There may be a 'do not ship before' stipulation on the delivery. Or, the package may require a signature.

In business, earlier is not always better.

Couriers take everything loaded in their trucks, deliver what they Must (due that day) and others if they can... Pretty much the heaviest day of the year inbound for delivery companies.. Just sayin

+1. Your package likely wasn't able to be delivered on the 20th so it was unloaded and put "in line" to be delivered on the scheduled date of the 22nd. If this wasn't a high volume time of year, you probably would have gotten the package early.

I had the same song & dance this week. 10 or so calls last week to the 800 # did nothing.
Sent an email to FWSmith@fedex.com (Pres.&CEO). Within 1/2 hr I had a call from his assistant, another 1/2 I had a call from the hub mgr. Had my package within 2 1/2 hrs.

His assistant called me last night at 8:30 to make sure I got it!!

I wish I'd kept the tracking report of one package I sent from work.

I was shipping to Redwood City from Menlo Park, and I thought I might as well send it ground as the cities are about 1 mile apart from each other.....

.... but no big mistake, in the 5 day journey my package went to Oakland, then Sacramento, the out of state to Oregon, then back to Sacramento, Oakland and then Redwood City !!!!

FredEx does this all the time.

It is like a nearly empty airplane - if you did not pay for 1st class they will not let you sit there no matter if you are the only one on the flight.
