For years...after a few decades, it becomes "normal"...

My wife has it. We've tried a few things...but some of the best were visiting the dentist to get a mouth guard to help relax the TMJ joint. This all depends on what the reason for your tinitus is. The other was an over-the-counter drug called Tinarex. This helped some, but wasn't the underlying reason my wife was having the ringing. The displaced joint was.

Sorry - I can't hear you. I've got ringing in my ears!

Actually - it's worst at bedtime. During the day with normal activity I guess I don't pay it much attention.

Yup. Had it most of my life - and I'm not even that old yet. I got used to it. Like Mark, there are times at night when it's bad. I already ave a hard enough time sleeping.

I get it in waves. Most of the time I'm ok but when it hits it hits hard. I've learned what things triggers it and try to avoid them.

I can remember as a kid I'd get the same sound in my ears and it'd go away with a yawn.
Now, it only goes away when I'm dead asleep.

I used to get it...found out I had chronic fluid in my ears/pressure. Once I got back on my allergy shots, my eustachian tubes cleared and the constant ringing was gone. I had the ringing for about 4 years.

I know its late for most of you, but ear plugs were your friend. If you're young, protect your hearing at work and play. It will catch up with you. BTW, I do workplace safety for a living.

I have it. Seems to be directly related to my blood pressure. So I can tell when my meds are not working.

My ears are ringing louder than usual as I am writing this. Some days it's not too noticable but sometimes it's very loud like tonight. It doesn't really bother me but certain noises really hurt. Speaker feedback really makes my skin crawl. Sometimes my ears ring at different frequencies and that kind of bothers me. One strange thing is I can't hear crickets chirping. I have been a drummer for 25 years and in all of those years of sitting next to moniters, I never wore ear plugs. The same thing with my job. I am a machinist and in the 30 years I have worked, I never wore ear protection. I still don't. I am paying for my stupidity now. I am lucky that it doesn't bother me too much, but I have heard of people who are almost suicidal from the constant ringing. I hope that everyone reading this will wear ear protection when needed. Now could be the perfect time to start when the mother in law comes over for the holidays.

A good rule of thumb is that if you have to raise your voice for someone to hear you, its too loud.

Tinutis? Is that a ringing in the uterus?

Interesting you should say that. You are the first person I've heard mention pain with tinitus. I've had tinitus for 10 years or so and some sounds, especially loud ones, hurt like hell. I take earplugs to the theater when I go to see movies.
My first summer off from college I worked in an iron foundry. My job was to use a a small jackhammer to smooth out imperfections in the cast iron on molds for earthmover tires. It was like standing inside a bell for 8 hours. No one thought of earplugs in those days.

I've had it for about 4 years. Mine came on after using Sudafed while I had the flue.

I've been to an ENT specialist and she told me there was nothing she could do.
Actually I don't think she really listen to me at all. She suggested I get my teeth checked.

I really think my problem is the same or similar to yours.

On top of the Tinutis I've been getting a pulsing rushing sound (hear beat) mostly in my left ear? Did you have this symptom?

On occasion the ringing will stop for a moment... Or move more to one side.
Pulsing isn't always there but mainly noticeable at night when trying to get to sleep.

I followed the Grateful Dead from town to town going to over 400+ shows. Combine that with working in a cannery for several years. Then a gunshot right next to my left ear. All adds up to permanent nerve damage to the middle ear. Doc says nothing can be done.
Last year I started having problems with my feet. Doc says it's a neuroma, a damaged nerve. He gives me a prescription for Tramadol. Helps the pain in my feet AND almost stops the ringing in my ears!!!!!!!!! But the bad side effect is a bad headache. It's almost worth the headache to have some relief from the tinitus.
