Wow. Best = Boxster.
Worst = Audi A6 3.0T.

Audi products generally blow.

I love my Boxster, I think they're a screaming deal as a used car. Ragged out SC or nice 80k Boxster for $10k, hmmmmmm.

My experience with new audi's (08+) has been exceptional. As in zero problems ever (same as with 05+ Porsche models).

I wouldn't hesitate to buy an 08+ Audi...I would hesitate to own an old one...

porsche4life 12-26-2010 07:51 PM

Good to hear that about the Boxster. I may be in one in the next few years....

Porsche-O-Phile 12-27-2010 02:53 AM

The Boxster is the new 944. Reliable as a hammer, great handling, good overall and not all that expensive. My next car will either be a Boxster S or a 911 cabriolet. I need an open top (sorry Cayman owners).

You forgot frowned upon by "true" Porsche enthusiasts.:p I totally agree, and predict that the Cayman will probably be in the same boat with a few more years of depreciation. Cheap Porsches that are great cars, what's not to love?

Laneco 12-27-2010 05:46 AM

I am definately looking forward to the Cayman being depreciated down to my price range. They are absolutely lovely cars, especially from the rear, which is the side most people will see if there's a curvy road around!

How are they in the winter?

I've got one client who drive's her Boxster year round here in Minnesnowta. Blizzaks and hard top, of course. The weight distribution helps. Ground clearnance could be an issue, but they're great at plowing and salting here, so it's mostly just dealing with the slippery surfaces.

Superman 12-27-2010 09:17 AM

Porsche denies that the Boxster is the new 914. Meanwhile, it's a mid-engine car with balanced handling, removable top and two trunks that can be very hard to beat at AX. Hmmmm.......

Cayman is the car we've been waiting for Porsche to make all these decades. A mid-engined coupe. Lighter. Faster. Stronger.

I don't care if that joke's getting old, I still like it.

Mine came with Falken RT-615K tires, basically a DOT autocross tire. I won't be driving it in the snow, as I do still value my own life.

There's a lot of folks that post on the various Boxster forums that use their cars year round, supposedly with a good set of winter tires they do quite well. As Kaisen said, ground clearance would be the only issue, but what car doesn't have that problem?

DaveE 12-27-2010 10:08 AM

I drive my '97 Boxster year round. I have a spare set of 17" wheels with Blizzaks and just got a hard top for last winter, definitely recommended. It gets around great in the Western PA mountains.

My car has 154K miles on it now with only a few minor issues since I've owned it the last 50K.

That's great to know, thanks for sharing your personal perspective
