Lawyer dudes...
Lawyer dudes, I was wondering aloud to my office admin why the staff at my law firm are not allowed to access their work email from home. He gave a lame reason that if we were allowed to access our email from home that we could have a claim of working OT.
Now, that's total BS as far as I am concerned...why? Well my wife is a legal secretary for another law firm here in Atlanta and she is allowed to log in to check email, and my pal who is the HR admin at ANOTHER (weird how I know so many that work at law firms) firm says that all of those at his firm can check their work email. So, I am not going to go to my office admin and pick a fight, but it pissed me off that he would cop to this as the reason, and plenty of other firms allow the practice. I just want to know the legal mumbo jumbo that would accompany why it is 100% OK to allow employees at a law firm check their work email. After all, OT must be approved as a matter of Firm policy here, and if YOU choose to check your work email from home (you know just cause you are a damn good employee or to see if the office is closed due to weather) that it's YOUR choice and not an immediate assumption that you are working OT. Legal eagles, who wants it? |

Better, you go home and can't be expected to work any OT......! "What, you sent me an email after hours?"
