+1 on leaving as is with an oil treatment. This will give you time to get on with your beekeeping or curing cancer or whatever it is the next hour will bring.

this is considered a new "hobby"or activity? it's like mowing the grass! or home maint.

i dont do that much..

(and i would kill to cure cancer..but i'm not smart like that)

Interesting I was under the impression vegetable oil didn't go rancid. I have been using it on my cutting boards for years with no issues.

I did a search and it seems food grade mineral oil is best but some nut oils such as Walnut or Almond and vegetable oil are safe as well as they don't go rancid easily.

But for this chopping block. Why not just leave it as is?
Sand and clean it up and that's it.

That will work. One could use bees wax as well. Expensive and hard to do. The oil keeps water out of the lamination joints and will help extend the life of the table top another 100 or 200 years.;)

Here is a link that was very informative!!! Heck I learned a bundle (but still like the mineral oil).

AND I stand corrected on a number of issues, like the walnut oil and the PURE tung oil and they even cover the "do nothing" option.

Happy New Year!
