Any body going to try to quit smoking?

I am going to give it hell this year, I guess I will not be participating in the weight loss challenge thread.

Trying again for the umpteenth time. I've had "other" habits that I just put down and never craved again. Nicotine is a mother f'r.

Same here. It's the only thing in my life I'm not happy about...

No Boozing (I do enjoy a drink with friends)
No Drugs (Never have)
No Over eating (anymore )

The problem for me is that I "friggin" enjoy it.

So to make myself feel better I walk for an hour most evenings.

I quit cigarettes in March, I still enjoy an occasional cigar every now and again though ( 3 since March). Good luck to you, I got a lot of support from fellow Pelicans and my family.

Last time I quit I made 3 years. I was miserable every day. Not just emotionally but mostly physically. Worst was sinus problems that required steroids. Then had stress at work which drove me back to the cancer sticks. Tried Chantix next time around, seemed to be working but developed massive anger issues as well as respority problems that left me unable to earn income from my voice over work.

I know it's killing me but I enjoy it.

Wish I'd never started.

That sounds awful...

So how are you going to quit? (I figure if you find a way there's hope for me yet)

Yeah...I'm in, but not until after my 60th birthday in 4 days. I could buy an 911Sc with what I spend every month. I'm gonna try that angle. If I quit for a year, I'll buy another Pcar.

Good on each of you... I celebrate by 16th anniversary today. 16 years without smoking has been great. Maybe on my 20th, I will finally get the p-car.

First, Happy 60th.

You might try giving yourself something tangible to represent your effort - a nickle in a jar to represent the five bucks a pack you save, every day that you don't smoke continuously - and you have to start over if you fall off.

I gave up drinkin' many years ago like that, and I still keep the big jar of nickles around to remind me. . .

Once you see that jar 1/4 or 1/3 full, it really steels your resolve, or at least it did me.

Good luck to all of you who are trying.

Haven't had a smoke in 19 months. I never smoked a lot, but I sure enjoyed it a lot. I miss it a lot. I wish I could just have one occasionally or buy a pack and take a month to go through it. But if I have them, I'll smoke them. It's especially hard when on a long motorcycle trip, which used to make a smoke break feel so great, and when traveling abroad. I don't know how I'm gonna make it through another trip to China where every single man smokes and you can smoke in the elevators in hotels. I miss it so much. Wouldn't mind losing all the weight I put on since quitting too.

I started on Camel non-filters when I was 18. It was a Rock n Roll thing. I had to get sick and tired of being sick and tired before I finally quit. After a dozen attempts and 30 years of smoking I finally quit. That was 9 years ago. And I feel Great!

A "Good Luck" and a "You Can Do It" goes out to everyone who is going to give it a go this New Year.
