Do women lose their minds in their 40s?

Over the years, I've read some posts here about guys experiences with their wives in their 40s. It sounds like in some cases women become a bit 'unhinged' in the 40's.

Things are reasonably placid with my wife and I at the moment. But sometimes she seems to just go after me like I'm the devil. I'm an SOB to be sure, but she will get on a tear, and its like I am the source of all the worlds problems. I could understand that if were living in a van down by the river, but we are lucky enough to be experiencing quite a few successes at the moment. WTF?

What really weirds me out is that our romantic life is not bad! One day she's on my ass, the next she's inviting me into the bedroom, and it doesn't seem like she's just 'going through the motions' either.

I've noticed a definite uptick in spending on beauty treatments and stuff ($5000+ MFing laser skin treatment on last months credit car bill! ).

Give me some guidance here older gurus. Do I just hold my tongue and ride it out? Will this eventually settle down as her hormones make peace with themselves, or am I in for a trip to H E double hockey sticks?

I think that the 40's are the time of "visual mortality" for a woman. Often things start looking a little more rough and that can be difficult to deal with. For men I think it is more physical mortality (like having to give up certain sports) and that varies from 30s to 50s depending on the person.

Everyone is insane to some degree. I figure if she puts up with my issues I can put up with hers.

Exactly, I figure the goal is to find someone whose insanity complements yours or at least that you can stand each other.

Look up "menopause" on Wiki... that will tell you a lot about what is going on...

I think a safer topic is in order here...

Anybody know where a guy could buy a Boss 302 Laguna Seca Mustang? I want to go smoke a well set-up 944. Oh wait..I can probably already do that...

I have only been married three years so take this with a grain of salt.

I have read a half dozen relationship books...

My experience... men are mono taskers... women are muti tasker... actually more to the point, men think about one thing at a time. If we are mowing the lawn we think about mowing the lawn, if we really get crazy we might think about fertilizing the lawn, or fixing the broken sprinkler.

Women, women have dozens of story lines running in their head at any given time, what are we having for dinner, should I buy those shoes I saw last week, should we donate to the starving children in Africa... etc., etc.

Also women talk just to talk. If I say to my guy friends "I'm thinking of buying a car" they know I'm shopping, looking online, comparing, and won't be surprised if I show up in a new car in a few months. If a women says "I'm thinking of buying a car" that means fro that nano second she is thinking about cars. If you ask her tomorrow about that car she is thinking of buying she will say "what car?".

Isn't she the breadwinner in your household?

If so, by all means, keep your mouth shut.

Keep track of the "crazy time". My wife and I have been at odds for a couple of years. She is approaching 40. The crazy time (since I have been paying attention) occurs with remarkable regularity about every 28 days but not during her period. During her period she is fairly normal but on the 2 weeks preceding it is like a switch has been turned.
I suspect mine has a condition related to PMS called PMDD. PMS on steriods is how I would describe it.
Your situation may be completely different but by watching the calender I can better precict the crazy times and make plans to be vacant during them.
Good luck, you will need it.

She's only pull'n crazy cuz she can. She knows your nutz about her and that provides her a certain amount of liberty to behave as she feels. Couple that with hormones, age setting in, memories of a tighter bod and fleeting time and your likely you don't get a knike in the jowels!

No, they're just psycho. I suggest a restraining order and an ultra compact firearm with you at all times. That's just my COA, YMMV.....

Of course, to be absolutely honest, I've always been this way.

Scottman is a wise man. I used to think menopause was a passing phase. Seems to me it's the start of a life-long change. Once they have grand-kids, all bets are off. You no longer exist.

The answer: Buy a rusty old long hood that really needs a lot of work. Make your garage very comfortable: big screen, music, recliner, etc. You will spend a lot of time there, just staying out of trouble.

$5000 in one month for skin treatments? Really? If she made the money, then you have no right to question it. She's 40+ and crazy, so all bets are off. If you made the money and your last name isn't Gates, well then, you have a problem on your hands.

I've never been with a woman 40+ and have no plans to. Of course, at some point I'll have no choice, but I'm hoping that's a ways off

Some of you have described a life of hell when it comes to your wives. I don't know how you do it.
