It is common knowledge John.

As above, your numbers are off because of some conveniently ignored facts. Even they were not, why not find a better way than one that is just as bad or worse. Come on man, THINK.

If it is such common knowledge that fluorescent lights cause brain dysfunction in school children, then you must have a cite, link or study handy. With you being a doctor and island being an engineer, your opinions should be fact-based. Can you point me to those facts?

If link works page 6 has a few interesting comments about cfl lighting....

They do a lot of bad things John. It is common knowledge, look it up your own damn self.

A local school principal here sued the school district and won over the use of fluorescent bulbs in classrooms.

California needs to reduce the amount of power consumed across the board so that the grid will support the massive amount of electric cars that they plan to mandate.

have you Not read my disclaimer below?

Seriously though, there is a difference between opinion & fact. Also, while I don't get migraines from 60hz. strobes (fluorescent, CRT's) they do make me feel ill. So. when I first heard about the study, I thought; it's about time!

Do you happen to remember the old news of the Seizure-inducing Japanimation ? ...that was a lower frequency strobe.

Brains don't like light strobes. Some brains (eyes?) are more sensitive than others; apparently.

You forgot to mention that fluorescents trigger my wife's migraine headaches. She's not alone in having this reaction.

I'd be willing to bet there is something else in your house that gives your wife headaches...

I looked into this. The amount of mercury in a CFL bulb is tiny, and there's no reason to think most of it will escape (rather than remain in/on the bulb fragments). I concluded there is no real concern and you can simply sweep the bits up and throw them out. Unless you expect to break them frequently. I've been using CFLs throughout the house for 3+ years now, and haven't broken a single one. They seem significantly more robust than a conventional bulb, as far as breakage goes.

I wonder how many lbs. of tuna equals one CFL?

They are indeed more robust than incandescent bulbs and work well in trouble lights.

I look forward to buying some nice, cheap LED lights.

OLD Fl. bulbs seem very unnatural b/c of the flickering, the freq. of the flicker & the odd, greenish colored light.

Every one of these items has been addressed with the newer bulbs and installations.

They still give off discrete spectra, rather than a continuous spectrum of light. Never heard that was a problem.

I do not have cites to any studies, but my recollection is that the studies were quite variable, non-conclusive, etc. But it does not matter anymore, unless you can find some in a museum or something.

We have a WINNER!

If you break one [CFL bulb] and dispose of the debris in the regular trash have you committed a crime?

No, and you have not committed a civil violation either. This is governed by CERCLA and there is a specific exemption for households and businesses that generate small quantities of even hazardous waste.

But you weren't asking a serious question anyway, were you?

daepp 01-05-2011 02:18 PM

It's a well known fact that some strobe frequencies can induce an epileptic seizure.

CFL bulbs last 10 times long, and use way less energy.

Get a life.

Thank you!

And +1 LED's will replace CFL's

AND when I was in school (70's) fluorescents were used throughout and no one died... and we even ate peanuts! and road bikes and skateboards without helmets!

sammyg2 01-05-2011 04:57 PM

CFL's suck IMO, but if eco-tards want to buy them then they should.
But for they can't just do that, nooooooooo!
That's not their style.
They are never happy living their lives the way they think they should, they think it's up to them to tell everyone else how to live! To FORCE everyone else how to live!
THEY decide for everyone, because they know better!
Well they don't. In most cases they're mentally challenged.

They have no business making decisions for me, that's my job.
They're job is to STFU and stay out of my business.

jyl already answered this claim - do whatever you want as long as you don't harm others
