Best Pink Floyd albums/songs?

I was debating with another Floyd fan during Navy Reserve drill about the best material. He said Wish You Were Here was his all-time favorite album... Really? Shine On You Crazy Diamond is a great song, Wish You Were Here is okay, but that album ranks about 4th in my book of Pink Floyd greats (even though it sold better than that). I tried to narrow things down to my top 5 albums and top 5 songs, which was nearly impossible for me. Any Floyd fans out there want to weigh in?

IMHO, the top 5 albums:

Dark Side of the Moon
The Wall
Atom Heart Mother
Wish You Were Here
The Final Cut

Top 5 songs:

Echoes (not crazy about the rest of Meddle except for Fearless)
Time
Us and Them
Atom Heart Mother
Hey You

Interesting, I had to think about this for a little bit! I don't think I can rank them, it depends on my mood.

Songs:
Several off The Wall
Wish You Were Here
Several off Dark Side of the Moon

But even though I like quite a few songs off The Wall and Dark Side, my favorite album is probably Momentary Lapse of Reason. For whatever reason it's the only album I play start to finish without skipping over anything.

Wish You Were Here
Dark Side Of the Moon

Can't stand The Wall. You can keep the others, too.

Best album would have to be the recording from "Pulse" after that "three pigs at the river" (which is a bootleg compilation) is probably the next best album wise. Or if you're into the older stuff "A Tree Full of Secrets" disk's 1-18 would be a good choice.

Dark Side of the Moon is an unqualified masterpiece. It is quite possibly the penultimate album masterpiece. The others are great too.

I like A Momentary Lapse of Reason; Gilmour's stuff is great...just has a different sound than the earlier material.

PF is probably, overall, my favorite band.

Dark Side, an "unqualified masterpiece," IMO close but not quite. My biggest critique of it is the overuse of the synthesizers (or whatever that synthesizer sounding thing they use is). "On the Run," for example, while probably groovy in '73, hasn't aged well and is filler that is not befitting of a masterpiece.

"Money" was a big commercial/radio hit, but I don't think is that great of a song.

Those 2 songs are unfortunately almost 1/4 of the album!

The rest of it, I can offer no criticism. The rest has IMO endured the test of time and is as listenable today as it was in '73.

Concur

Best Song, maybe not their best, but a personal favorite: "Shine on You Crazy Diamond."

"Come on you raver, you seer of visions,
come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine! "

Us and Them

It is the best, most poignant anti war song written,

MRM had some remarkable posts about why.

Well, if you want to get technical, "Final Cut" is more of a Waters album than a Floyd album.

Was anyone else here as excited as I was when the 25th anniv. boxed set was re-issued about 10 years ago? Now it looks to be nearly as rare as the original.

The Wall is the album I always think of as their masterpiece, though I am more likely to play Wish You Were Here then any of the others.

Dark Side of the Moon was the first record I ever bought (the second was John Cougars American Fool) which should date me.

Dark Side of the Moon is the ultimate, and then Wish You Were Here but for me Animals is third...
