918 rsr
How many of you saw Porsche unveil the new 918 RSR this morning at the Detroit Auto Show?????????? I think I smell another run at an overall victory at Le Mans in the near future!!!!!

|
I watched it live. Looks amazing and I love the throwbacks to the 917.
|
Beautiful car but I can't help but think it looks like a Lotus.
That's not a bad thing. Maybe Porsche will start producing some light weight "Lotus" like cars in the future??? |
Porsche
Looks great!!!!!
PCA Zone 4 is having a Detroit Auto Show day this Saturday. Am looking forward to seeing that in person. Anyone from Zone 4 coming this Saturday???? |
It was worth getting up at 3:15am to watch. Can't wait to see and hear this "flat fan" V-8 beast on the track...563hp from the gas engine, and hit the button for an electric boost to 767hp....Holy Cr@p, 204 additional ponies with the push of a button
|
I hope that it gets to the track soon, cant wait.
|
I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for that car to win LeMans overall. I'm thinking it will be raced in the GT1 class, or maybe in another series altogether.
I wonder what the fan is for? The engine is water-cooled and the Kers device is in the passenger cockpit. JR |
That looks great. It does have 917 elements to it.
I think it would be great for the sport and great for VW as a company to create race and development teams within each group - Audi, Porsche, VW, etc., give them each their own budget and independence and have them to compete for the win at Le Mans. Think of the innovation that would come from having those in-house teams competing against each other. |

Pretty car; at first blush, though, reminds me of a Ford GT. |
|
Is that a flux capacitor in the passenger's seat?
|
Just don't drive 88 :D
|
It's the KERS unit

I'm pretty sure it will run the 24 hour event at Nurburgring along with James Glickenhaus' Ferrari P4/5 Competizone
|
It looks like a Noble to me.

This is a car that doesn't know what it is supposed to be. It's got the chassis and finish of a supercar, half-interior for road use, non-necessary style items such as the rear fan, yet they call it a race car. It doesn't have a class to race in other than prototype at Nr24, and surely won't race anywhere in the totted-up leather wrapped dress as shown.
I would have rather seen it without the race colours, without the flybrid system, with a full 2 person interior and less conceptual, more production worthy intentions, to be released as a Carrera GT successor. Then at least it would have made sense. |
I think its one of those cars they built, "because they could"
|
|
OMG! I want one! I'm sure it will cost me two years of gross pay...but I want it! And it has a V8!!!! It will even sound as good as it looks!
Wonder how long before Hyundai builds a $50k clone~ N! PS: I sure hope that the silly "Lambo" doors are just for the show; every Honda Civic in town has these and a juice-can muffler- |

I love it!

I can't wait till one of those flywheels explodes :p

"ALMS has dropped GT1, but then again if Corvette can run a big engine vs. Porsche's comparatively puny RSR motor, maybe this is the central engine solution to be competitive in GT2 again... I think the 997 RSR will get its ass handed to it this year, so that might have been a cool car for the lizards..." Guess I was not clear enough, or you read too fast... |
