I'd take the keyboard out and then clean it by hosing it down, multiple times, in a contact cleaner. As in drench it. The goal is to take all the crap that is now dried and caked onto the inside of your keyboard, and get it dissolved and flushed out.

Not the contact cleaner as in eyes, but electronic control cleaner, like this:

There usually isn't much to a keyboard, so odds are it's just dirty, shorting out or sticky as a result, and not "fried". If something is fried, I'd bet that it would be on board the mother/daughter board, and not the keyboard, so replacing the keyboard might not help.

Hell, I routinely put external keyboards in the dishwasher when they get a little gummy and sticky. (The dishwashing is followed by a rinse of the above control cleaner).

The key is to get the proper cleaning solution that will dissolve and clean the residue that is there, and then dry quickly without leaving anything behind. That's what contact cleaner does.

By the way, if you haven't cleaned out the innards of the laptop with something like the contact cleaner I mentioned, that means you still have all sorts of residue inside the laptop that can and will cause problems.

Replacing the keyboard might only turn out to be a short-term fix.

I'd suggest doing a thorough cleaning with some contact cleaner to ensure that as much of the dried coffee residue as possible is removed.

Worst I had to clean out was a half can of Dr. Pepper from an ex-girlfriend. Not fun, but it was salvageable with a bit of time and $10 worth of cleaner.

I have seen no indication that the coffee spill went anywhere other than the keyboard. About an hour ago I did the warm water rinse, followed with a rince of distilled water and finally rubbing alcohol. I'll let it dry for two days and see what happens.

Just had to confirm what was mentioned earlier. At a recent party the subject of wet batteries came up, numerous people agreed that the rice trick really works to draw moisture out... good luck.
