H F Body saw
Last week I bought a Harbor Freight air powered body saw (similar to the one in the pic) on sale for $17.00. Does anyone own one? If so what blades do I use? I thought a standard sawzall blade would work but they don't seem to fit.
Thanks DR ![]() |

I have one too. It should have come with a few but they definitely don't last very long. I haven't needed to buy any more but when I do I will try to buy better quality. An autobody retailer would be a good bet (unless Pelican sells them).

I wouldn't buy a lot of blades because the saw probably won't last very long...

Some take jig saw blades. I cut blades down as need to fit by grinding them on a bech grinder.

Thanks Rocket. I was thinking of doing that. Just thought maybe there was something I was missing.

I use HF hack saw blades (white, 18T) and cut them in 1/2 or 1/3 with a pair of snips.
I get about 5 years out of the saw.

We have several at work. Not sure if it's the same as this, but here are the blades we buy.
Saw Blades or get them from HF. HF Saw Blades

Keep plenty of oil in those, they tend to get sticky and jam up. to fix it just grab the blade and pull , it will rotate the mechanism inside and free it up

I have a couple of HF air tools ( sander, die grinders, air chisel) that have suprisingly stood up to years of disgusting abuse.

Break off a (sharp) piece of your used hack saw blades.

How do you secure them in the saw? I thought these had a generic mounting system like a jig saw.

It does have a clamping system similar to a jig saw. I do not think it has a key inside though. I think it is held in place simply by tightening the screw. I don't know for sure because I haven't been able to get a blade in the slot yet. |

THere's a small allen-head screw on each side of the head to hold the blade.

Widebody,
I see all that, the problem seems to be the slotwhere the blade sits in the retaining collar. Its to narrow for the blade. If I remove the square retaining collar the blade fits fine in the shaft but then turns. |

I just read red88carreras post. Maybe thats my problem. I am trying to fit a sawzall blade. Maybe the gaude of steel is to thick? I'll try the HF blades.

Same here. The Central Pneumatic tools are suprisingly robust.

Harbor freight sells blades for that saw, both fine and course. Lots of other places too, I found some on line. Search for bi-metal air saw blades.
BTW, I have all kinds of HF tools in my garage and I know tools. I made a good living with tools for many years and I'm a ME who spends at least $60k a year on tools at work. I don't buy HF tools for my machinists but for home use they do just fine. Those who automatically dismiss all HF tools as junk probably shouldn't. |
