I forget that executive recruiters are also sales people
They are coming out of the woodwork since learning that my employer is in trouble with the fed gov. I am fielding calls three a week from recruiters. They know employees of the company are getting very anxious about the future. I'm glad they're calling though. Got an interview lined up in a couple of weeks. Wish me luck!

Make sure that you use the recruiters to your advantage. Remember that they are in this for themselves. They can really help but they can also hurt. I.e. they will really want you to get the job but if you do, they will really want you to take the job. Don't let them pressure you into accepting a job you don't like.
I have also seen where they mark their territory. They pee on the tree - meaning they send your resume to companies without your consent. Issue being that now you are linked to the recruiter and you can't get into the company any other way. Even if you find out you have a friend in the company that can get you hired, you are now coming in through the recruiter which may actually hurt you due to the large fee he may charge. In summary, I would only work with a recruiter that you have been referred to by a colleague. I would not take cold calls unless your job search is very urgent. G |
