Liftmaster Garage Door Help PLEASE

So my liftmaster chain drive is spinning its motor but that power is not translating to a door opening...I can help it open or closed but that is all. It won't move on its own. I am guilty as charged for not touching or inspecting it yet - its cold but I still have no excuse and should have my man card revoked for posting before inspecting.

Could door simply have come released from the trolley/shuttle that's attached to the chains?

Check the vertical cables attached to each bottom corner of the door? Although both would have to be broken for no movement at all.

I just had a similar problem repaired on a 14 year old 1/2 HP Craftsman chain drive opener.

In my case the nylon drive gear teeth on the motor were stripped. Spinning, but no bite, caused in part by a few wonky old metal rollers on the tracks with shot bearings.

I had the gear in the opener replaced, and replaced all the track rollers with new, much quieter nylon ones and the alignment checked. Good as new.

You don't mention if the chain is moving - if not - it's likely a clutch adjustment.

You can find that large round palstic gear with the grease on ebay for $8. The kit with both gears and bushings is $25.

Wonky old metal rollers? I guess it's called sales.

Chain is not moving. I bought the gears online just now. I'll just replace the gears regardless. What would clutch adjustment entail?

Not in my case. The metal rollers on my door were 35+ years old and several were completely shot. My fault for not checking them earlier.

I made the significant financial committment of about $25 at Lowes to replace all of them.

With the low interest financing, they'll be all mine in just 36 months.

If you look at the end of the opener chassis, there is usually a screw/bolt readily accessible for the clutch adjustment. Turn it a half turn or so to increase force and see if that remedies the issue.

Or has the pin that holds the gear to the motor shaft sheared?
