Kid docs--crazy stomach virus in your area?
This has been a nerve wracking couple of months for us. Both of my kids have been struck with a stomach virus. She's been on an antibiotic for the last week and is better but it's been off and on with her for several weeks. We were told that it's just a virus and it has to run it's course.
In the meantime, my son came down with the same thing but not as severe and not as often. Last night he was up most of the night vomiting. He had no issues at bedtime when I tucked him in. I thought it was just something he ate. When my wife called the school she was told there are several kids out today with the same thing and/or a fever. Is this some trend around the country? We clean everything and have been using Lysol like crazy. I just don't understand why my kids keep getting sick. I'm home with my son today. Thanks for letting me vent. |
Maybe it's the Lysol.

Ya know, I actually thought about that. |
Sorry to hear that. I hope they get better soon. If it makes you feel any better there are a lot of people sick down our way too. Co-workers have had it along with their kids, quite a few kids from school have had it as well. More close to home our son had the vomiting Sunday but was over it by Monday, and our daughter had the diarrhea on Monday night and I was home with her on Tuesday. Everyone is healthy again and it looks like my wife and I missed it. I just think it's good ole' Michigan winter weather that gets people sick.
EDIT - If you really want to disinfect, get a bucket with as hot as water as your hands can stand, put just a touch of bleach in there (doesn't take much), wring your rag out good and just start wiping down every touchable surface. Even the backs of dining chairs, stairway handrails, anything you can think of. That's how I do it if there is a sickness just jumping around our family. |
Dont know if it is the same thing, but we all just got over a nasty stomach virus/or flu. It was wicked, I was bedridden for two days, and usually nothing stops me. I could only muster enough strength to get out of bed to puke. First the kid, then both of us got it. Hang in there, hopefully it runs its course .

Thanks guys.
I'm going to do the bleach washing today, Bill. The laundry is done, dinner is planned and I've cleaned up the carpets of vomit. Thank goodness Mandy keeps emailing me from the office to see how things are going. |
There's been a bug going around here. My boss and his four kids have all had it. I think I had something earlier this week but there was no praying any porcelain gods for me...

We went through this last weekend with my son. It wasn't fun...
|
Sick kids are no fun. I'm sure you know this, but antibiotics don't help with viral infections.

The antibiotic for my girl was because they found the start if a sinus infection. I must have left part out. I'm glad we have insurance!! |
gatorade, pedialyte, lather, rinse, repeat
wash hands frequently |
I have five kids so I know all about it. I'm not as empathetic as you. When my kids got sick, I'd make them stay outside until they were well. Makes 'em tough. It's like the old saying, "one man's child abuse is another's good night sleep."

Caught this bug when I was visiting Ohio over the holidays... was not fun.

Rotavirus
|
Hope you and the kids feel better. The flu isn't fun.
We've had a bad cold with a chest cough going around for weeks now. I'm tired of trying to cough up a lung... |
Sorry to hear this, Wayne. I know its dreadful. Fortunately kids are very resilient and will get well by them selves in most cases, with or without intervention from docs and parents. I hope status is improving today.

My son was back to normal by 8pm last night.
We're off to the East coast of Michigan to vist Grandma today so I 'm glad it is over. |
Thats good to hear! Some of these viral infections, particularly those creating gastroenteritis have a tedious tendency to create symptoms on and off for rather a long period sometimes.

We had a doc appt. for my daughter's follow-up this morning. He theorizes that the flu bug caused the enzymes in her stomach to be reduced which in turn caused her problems with dairy products. Once we put her on Zantac she was able to digest normally.
My parents had 6 kids and my Mom told me today that we were not sick as often as her grandchildren have been(not just my kids but other sibling's as well). |
My three youngest had flu shots in the fall, but all got this bug. Two 4 year olds and a 6 yo had it at the same time.
