Windows 7 - what's so great?
What is so wonderful about Win 7?
sure it's 64 bit - not a big deal is it? the "focus" thing on the GUI is nice but.... |
Not a lot different in interface from XP, but I have noticed it is a little more stable and runs a little faster on the same hardware.
|
The average person would not notice much difference.

32/64 bit....
Everyday users will never really see the 64 bit benefit. Running Word in 32 bit mode or 64 will be identical. The major benefit to 64 bit, is the increased RAM access. And you will only really use the extended RAM - 4gigs plus, when you are crunching huge files, like trying to stitch 100, 20meg pictures together or editing large movie files. As far as speed, it's comparable to XP. It's a huge improvement over Vista. |
It's also way more secure than XP and has lots of big architechtural changes allowing it better stability and scalability. Vista did also, but the execution was lacking.
Also, Vista overall isn't so bad anymore, a good half of the problems experienced by most people were bad drivers or software. It's just that Vista put a stop to some of the loose programming that was going on and it ended up being ugly. Most of that was resolved by the time 7 came out, and since 7 has the same overall base and driver model, it wasn't a huge change as it was from XP, so stuff just worked. |
It's not vista! That's the best part!
|
It runs much better than Vista on the same hardware. Detects hardware very well...

better than Vista is pretty faint praise

Rock-solid stable, good interface, quick, etc. I have yet to get any "blue screens of death".
Unlike XP I don't have to reboot it six times a week for "security patches" either. They did a good job on Win7. |
I really like Win 7, not as much as I like OsX but I like it. I totally stopped using a desktop over vista. Pretty much just walked away and left it set until 7 came out.
