Obviously that GFSZ law worked. (CA PC §626.9). And also the fact that we cannot get concealed carry permits (CA PC §12025) none of the school employees nor security carry for the protection of themselves or students.
If you wish to commit a mass-murder, victim disarmament zones (such as schools) work the best.

Does this school have metal detectors? I think this is another example of proper security before entering the school would have prevented this from happening. It seems this one was an accidental shooting.

I dot believe in any way that the gun just "went off". Give me a break.
For those not in So Cal, this is not the kind of place you'd want to attend high school at. There apparently are metal detectors but are only used randomly.

Oh yeah, TSA should be at all of our schools. ...teach 'em young that they have no rights.

Suspect in Custody After 2 Students Shot at California High School
Published January 18, 2011 DEVELOPING:Authorities say two students were shot Tuesday morning at a high school in Los Angeles. One person has been arrested. Police believe the gunman, a black male wearing black clothing, is a student at Gardena High School, the school where the shooting occurred. Police say one bullet was apparently fired accidentally hitting a 15-year-old boy in the neck and a 15-year-old girl in the head. The girl is in surgery at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, police say. Sources reportedly told The Los Angeles Times that after the gun fired, the student who brought it to school apologized to his classmates before running out of the classroom. A spokesman for the Los Angeles Unified School District reportedly told local news outlets that the shooting was accidental. District spokesman Robert Alaniz said the gun was brought to school in a backpack and went off when the student dropped it -- injuring the two victims with a single bullet. Law enforcement officials, however, say they are skeptical of that account and say the shooting is currently under investigation. The victims were treated by paramedics and taken to a hospital. One of the victims was in serious condition and the other in critical condition, according to fire officials. Lt. Steve Prendergast, from the Gardena Police Department, said a teacher called 911 at 10:41 a.m. local time and local police responded. The investigation has been handed over to the LAPD, since the school is located in the city of Los Angeles. A handful of frantic parents rushed to the school after hearing about the shooting on the news. They paced nervously as they waited behind police tapes for word from their children. "I've never heard of anything like this before," said Thomas Hill, whose 16-year-old and 18-year-old children attend the school. "You're going to have confrontations between kids but never this." Armando Perez, whose 15-year-old son Richard, was in the school, said: "I just want to know what's going on." A mother who was waiting to hear from her 14-year-old son, Michael, said the school has a reputation for gang violence. Lupe Contreras said she has been trying to get her son out of the school. |

If every student had been armed, immediate action could have been taken to take the accidental shooter out. This may sound drastic, but if the accident prone and other douchebags and douchebagettes are taken out immediately, preferably by their peers, there would ba a profound acceleration of Darwinian survival-of-the-fittest effect and we would all be safer. Try to keep up, Pazuzu!

Anyone got a quick list of the various laws they broke, and want to place a bet on what percentage of them they actually prosecute?
Because obviously we have enough laws... don't need to pass new ones after getting all emotional and such and wanting to "do something!"

Wow, grazing one kid in the neck before hitting another in the head... some serious luck that that bullet wasn't a few millimeters in another direction or else you have one dead-cold instead of two injured.
I wouldn't want to be in that classroom; scary stuff. Not something I really think I ever thought about when I was in school.

Guns are allowed in schools.
First, LE obviously are allowed to carry guns into schools. Second, there is no physical law that prohibits guns. (as witnessed by this shooting) Now you may think I'm just being flip, there, but really, what's wrong with a program that has either armed school security, or weapons trained faculty carrying? As it is, we have had a few mass killings because the shooter KNOWS that they have many minutes to empty as many rounds as they can carry. Besides, what good is a metal detector if it can't stop a shooter? That is, one of these crazed students might just lose it because of the uncivil treatment of having to be scanned daily. ...the 'gate' becomes their first target.
