We had a case like this last year. We were purchasing some equipment and specifically asked if the equipment was new. We were told yes. They were trying to pass off refurbished as new. When I demanded my downpayment back, they stated I knew it was refurbished. I have the e-mail trail.

I had to pay lawyers to get most of my money back. I still ended up better than the 35% restocking fee. Some business are crooks!

We tangled up with MM years ago, but as bad as it was we got SOMETHING for it.

The best rip off was buying a 3.0 engine on ebay a few years ago. The guy had me send the money to his checkin account. Turns out that is the most unsafe thing you can possibly do. It's like a one-way pipe. Money goes in, but doesn't ever come back out for any reason. I got the police involved but the investigator said he probably wouldn't get to my case for a year or two because he was over-run with child pornography cases. Banks don't help, etc.

I did contact every person on ebay who was bidding on his auctions and got ebay to close his account. One fellow from Brazil was especially grateful as he was bidding on the same engine that had been "sold" to me. I provided police report copies to everyone. It was the only damage I could do.

I believe Ebay now makes it more difficult to contact the bidders. That is unfortunate as it was the way to stop this guy in his tracks. Ebay took more than a month to kick him off. He had over $10k in auctions running when I made it my personnel vendetta to ruin every one of them. Lot more people would have been burned now.

I will never see that money again. Lesson learned.

Used British junk yard in LA. Sold me a warped TR7 head, refused to .take it back even though he gave me 30 Days. I turned him into the regional water board for Soil/ groundwater contamination from oil/ antifreeze, etc. They made his life so bad they drove him out of business.

Had 12K of my tools stolen from my storage facility last year. That hurt....

Two weeks ago I found out I have a phony $20 bill..I know the only way to get my money back is to pass it off to someone else..Just hate to do that to someone who may have it tougher than me right now...I guess I'll eat it until the right circumstances come about..
