Beard or no beard?

I am in the process of applying for pharmacy school, I must include a picture. Should I be clean shaven? Or is the beard acceptable?

Excuse the mess, obviously I will be getting a professional photo made in nicer clothes

Beard or no beard?

At this point I would say no beard.
The clean cut Eagle Scout is the safe way to go.

Thats kind of the way I am leaning...

Ditch the burns too?

Steve Carlton 01-23-2011 07:51 PM

You'd be a shoo-in for gladiator school.

porsche4life 01-23-2011 07:55 PM

Sadly, that doesn't pay as well.....

Do the clean kid thing. No side burns either. You never know who will be looking at the picture. A beard especially in a picture clouds the whole image.

Shave. You can grow it back once you have the pic. Sideburns are ok as long as they aren't past the bottom of the ears. I would also get a hair cut that breaks up the hairline on the forehead a little better. Looks too much like a home made haircut with the help of a pot right now. ;)

I know, you didn't ask about the hair cut. ;) Also, a light smile in the picture will be good - not teeth showing.

Cheers,

G

Guys keep in mind I didn't try to look decent in that picture. ;) I barely brushed my hair when I got up this morning. Got a haircut Saturday.....

Part the hair...

Repost with the actual picture for us EXPERTS to critique. ;)

BTW, I have a beard. But I'd shave for any application picture. Only takes a day and a half to grow back for me. :D j/k.

I'll have mine back in a week. Shave again if I get an interview....

Bill Douglas 01-23-2011 08:24 PM

Unless pharmacy school is run by amishers/quakers, I'd lose the beard ;)

slodave 01-23-2011 08:33 PM

Go for the cowlick!

porsche4life 01-23-2011 08:37 PM

I used to have a pretty serious cowlick, started combing it like this when I got a pretty nice gash on the forehead. The scar isn't near as prominent now....

slodave 01-23-2011 08:45 PM

In all seriousness, lose the beard and trim the sideburns.

I weighed the option of shaving when I had a few new clients one after the other. My existing clients don't care, but you have to make a good first impression. I didn't shave though. Figured I am established enough and I've decided to wear the beard until summer, I like the look. Once it gets hot, we'll see what happens.

911Freak 01-23-2011 08:50 PM

ditch it!

The current trendy "scruffy bearded young guy look" works on some guys some of the time, probably not the best look for a pharma job let alone an interview....

Personally, I'd rather see a clean cut eagle scout type dole out my mothers heart meds.

You can always grow it back later, right?

techweenie 01-23-2011 09:12 PM

That kind of image usually accompanies a news story with a line like:

"He was a quiet boy, a loner, and then one day he just snapped..."

86 the beard; find a stylist.

porsche4life 01-23-2011 09:19 PM

You realize this is OK, we don't have "stylists" out here..... Men go to barbers..... :p

Too funny!!

Sid, lose the beard, keep the sideburns in check and tidy.
Try smiling a little bit for your picture, not too much.

Don't sweat about the application, they're fools if they don't let you in.
