The Porscharu is back
I was looking at Porsche classifieds on Craigslist like some sort of addict (maybe I could get a 964 or Boxster for my DD to supplement my weekend 911 in the garage, then I could drive a Porsche every day!), and I stumbled across this. I remember the original thread when this car was built.
Take a look: 1978 Porsche 911 SC Subaru EG33 swap |
But how desirable is it the way it is?
From what I remember the engine cost $400! |
If one had a 911 roller, how difficut and how costly would it be to do this, I wonder?

Cost (guessing) 1. A good 5.7 liter Corvette Engine = $1,500 (in the USA) 2. A good 930 Gearbox = $4,000 3. The rest = $2,000 to $4,000 $7,500 to $9,500 + the cost of the roller... Not bad for a very fast car. ;) I don't think you know how lucky you guys are to have good "rollers" sitting in breaking yards screaming out for some attention. |
my high school friend is putting a subbie engine into a spyder body kit. i keep trying to convince him to drop a 912 in there instead.

356/912 engines are painfully expensive for a real rebuild
|
What ever happened to the guy on here who did the turbo subaru install, it was a work of art but he caught **** for it ,,, looked fantastic. I think he was in AZ

He moved to NY. |

From memory his main justification was because of the cost of rebuilding an air cooled 911 as opposed to buying a low millage Subaru engine for $400. I'll see if I can find the thread. |
Here it is...
16 Pages!.. It's worth reading

So what is the dealio on doing this?
Because it is less expensive that a Porsche engine? This from a guy who looked at a 911 Buick V6 turbo conversion. ;) |
I have a very good roller in need of a strong engine without the need for spending 3-5K on a crapshoot engine. That would be my dealio. Time to read that other thread (thanks Peter!).

A few years ago in AZ, he had it for sale forever for $9K, Now he's driven a ton of miles, had it in the snow and wants $10K???????? I don't recall it was a turbo? 3.3 six I thought...
|
Not turbo but 3.3 for sure... This is his (the car in question) build thread

Scoobie Roos are swapped into VW buses and 914s on a regular basis. Big whoop....no worse than a Chebbie.
