How does this scam work?

2007 BMW K1200S for $3109? Wonder if he'll take $3100.

.......2007 BMW K-Series.......

I emailed the guy and he wrote back that it's in impeccable condition, though he didn't answer my question about mileage and his email address is a uscentral-military.com, which is very suspicious. I'd buy this bike today if it were for real, but I'm guessing it's too good to be true.

Pretty nice of him to sell so cheap... seems like he would have taken the $8700 bid on Ebay.

If it works anything like the car scams, Generally the price is below market to make you move quickly becuase it's a deal. Then they say because they are in the military they will take care of shipping free on their end. makes it a better deal. Then they ask for your real address to set up shipping. Then they give you an account number to electronically deposit your money and poof they are gone. You never hear from them again.

Those scams are all over craigs list.

Be vewy vewy cautions.

Are you sure about that?

BMW--KSeries-07-K-1200-S-Anniversary-tricolor-excellent-condition

"The 6000 mile service was performed in July 10 at BMW of Fort Worth."

The houses/foliage look like the DFW area.

Listing is also on NY and Boston Craigslist flagged for removal.

if it was real military the email would have a .mil ending. Something like- joe.blow@iraq.centocm.mil. or the servicemember would use gmail or the like.

Sorry, you can't view it before purchase.

Poof, your money is gooone.

That is exactly what they do. They repost the entire ad. photos, description, everything. Probably don't do much more then copy paste.

Just received another email from the guy. "The bike is packed up, and sealed in the shipping container!"

I replied "how is someone going to test ride the bike if its sealed in a container?"

Its smelling more and more like a scam.

The response will be. "if you are not happy with it when you get it I will refund your money"

I've bought bikes and cars sight unseen, but there was no doubt whatsoever the seller was way honest and I've never had any regrets.

Joeaksa 01-25-2011 05:44 PM

Another email and he is really pushing me to buy the bike. Sorry, aint gonna happen without riding it...

Rick Lee 01-25-2011 05:49 PM

What's his explanation for having it crated when it's advertised in Phoenix and photographed in Dallas? If he were local and I could see the bike, I'd buy it tomorrow.

The pictures are old, he took them a while ago after he finished detailing it.

He's been reassigned so while the bike is in Arizona he had to move and had nowhere to store it so it got crated up and is somewhere that you can't see it. But good new, since it's already crated it can be shipped to you quick. In fact it's in the transporters warehouse.

Joeaksa 01-25-2011 08:04 PM

So you think its a valid seller?

dewolf 01-25-2011 08:08 PM

'Run Forrest Run' It's all BS. Ask for the bikes engine and frame number and last registered owner.
