Anti Virus recommendations

I've been using Trend Anti Virus for the last 5-6 years. My old company used to provide a free license, then not, then I retired.....still using them.

Last couple of months the program has been extremely slow to load, delaying my my boot up, slows/hangs/freezes programs when downloading an update and recently has failed to load the personal firewall. I have to close the program and reload.

Is this common with other AV programs? I also have my internet connection thru an air card with Verizon if that matters.....

OK....those two work. But do they freeze, hang up or fail to load components? Or is it due to my aircard connection to the internet?

OK....downloaded the free version. Doing a scan using the "Advanced Registry Optimizer". Over 1600 "errors"....is this some scam to sell me something?

Also, I remember some free software that did a scan and then hijacked your computer, then for a "fee" it got released....

Oh yeah, SAMMSOFT, cute Sammy....%^b

edit.....yep, for a fee they will clean up my computer. Anyone go for this?

I just bought a new copy of trend micro from amazon. It runs great, cost $27 and is good for up to 3 PCs.

Actually, I think the new version its better than last years.

Just get Norton. It is the industry standard & it is bulletproof. Keep it up-to-date & forget viruses forever. Just get the AV for $39.95 . . .

Ian, I can do that with Trend that I have now.

What pisses me off is the freeze ups, failure to load and slow downs during update downloads.

The question was two fold.....is this a internet connection problem with Verizon and/or Trend?

Used to be industry standard. It has been surpassed by ESET - Antivirus Software with Spyware and Malware Protection
which won't freeze up, slow load or lock up your system like Norton does.

I have had zero issues with my last 2 computers & Norton. I had a major computer flame out 5 or 6 years ago on Jan 1. Since then, I have been very diligent with Norton. I schedule scans when I am not normally using - Sunday night etc. It is painful on my 6 yr old laptop but not on my desktops.

Like I said, No, no & no to all three . . . yes, it used to do all of these things but not in my last 2 builds i.e. 5-6 years . . . I DO NOT use the suite, just AV.

I used Trend for years as well, and still do (different product though) on our office machines. However my IT guy recommended ESET last time Trend came up for renewal -- been very happy with it -- non-intrusive and nothing has slipped past it thus far.

AV doesnt stop you from getting a virus, you need an Internet Securities (firewall) type of program. Thats the part on Norton that hogs all your system resources.

+1 Seems to use less resources than others I've tried.
