Another baby Colt joins the family........

This just arrived today. It is a 1903 Colt Hammerless Pocket Pistol. Made in 1914, it certainly doesn't look its age (97 years old). If you look closely at the grips, you will see that the Colt emblem faces the front of the pistol on both sides. This was a "feature" only offered for a couple of years before the bean counters decided it was cheaper to only make one type of grip emblem. Even has the original "two tone" magazine in the well! Oh yes, it's shoots a rip snorting .32 ACP! I believe that it was Gen. George Patton that once said that "Only a pimp in a New Orleans whore house would carry a pistol with pearl grips". Oh well, I guess everyone ought to own at least one!

Left Side Colt 1903

Right Side Colt 1903

Big Brother Colt 1908 380

The 1908 model is almost the same size as the 1903. It is just a few hundredths of an inch thicker thru the slide. The .32 Bbl and magazine will work in the 1908 but the 1908 parts don't work in the 1903 frame! That is a custom made inside the waist band holster lined with pigskin. Hand made by Ed Buffaloe in Texas.

Remington 51

Art,

The Remington 51 is one of my all time favorite handguns. I'll probably have to break down and own one someday.

Age

I believe that you are confusing the model number (1903) with the year of manufacture (1914). The way I cipher it come out to 97 years old. Easy mistake to make. I've done it a few times myself!

Fred,
I love the Remington 51, from both a design and esthetic and handling perspective, but it's a nightmare to disassemble, clean and reassemble. I shoot my guns but I realize that not all others do that, some just collect and admire them. There are always nice Remington 51's on Gunbroker for $800-$1200.
