Single stage reloaders - Eat your heart out

Gun show score today. 420 rds of turkish 7.92s for my Czech k98. Brass cases (if I want to start reloading), not steal core, and even brass stripper clips to boot. Sure beats the Romanian stuff.

.24 cents a shot. Can't beat that.

Ouuuu a SPORTERIZED 98....

BRPORSCHE 01-29-2011 02:33 PM

Yep Tabs. The more I shoot it, the more I like it.

Can't beat the value.

Nice score. I'm gonna have to start reloading. Just about finished the Mega Machine .308 AR and I would like to see how good the Remington is with a handload...so I need quantity and quality!

Hey, Did David end up driving the rental car back from Dallas?

BRPORSCHE 01-29-2011 05:10 PM

Yep the hunt continues.

Oh well. Good on him for being able to walk away. Thanks for setting up the meet. It was great meeting you guys!

Hate to break the bad news to you, but that stuff is probably berdan primed. While it is reloadable, it is a lot harder than the newer boxer primed cases.

Berdan primers are hard to find, and the depriming prossess is a pain in the ass.

Nice find though.

Is it possible just to drill a new center flash hole (leaving the two offset Berdan holes), pull the Berdan primer, and push in a boxer primer?

It is a little more involved than that, the anvil for the primer is actually part of the case on a Berdan primer, and the OD of the primer/ID of the pocket is different.

There are a couple ways of doing it, but this explains the steps pretty clearly:
Berdan to Boxer Conversion Method in Handloading Forum

There are instructions on how to reload berdain primed cases here:

I could see it maybe being worthwhile if the cases were completely unavailable, (or as an engineering exercise if that sort of thing blows your skirt up) but if it was me, I would just buy brand spankin' new Privi Partisan 8mm Mauser brass from Grafs for ~$40/100 (or $34/100 if you have a C&R ;) )

Very nice! I'll be reloading some .308 Winchester in the next two weeks...
