Interesting, I downloaded a movie from iTunes to my iPhone and it appears that Apple slipped an upgrade to firmware 4.3.2 in without telling me, and it wiped out the jailbreak and the cydia software. I guess I should have seen that coming.

Maybe, I did upload an update to Safari without thinking. Pretty sure I didn't click on the 4.3.2 upgrade. I'll be traveling for the next month, so I'll look at the jailbreak software when I return.

Hugh, I'd watch out for the Apple employees. You wouldn't want to become part of the Human CentiPad...

You can downgrade back to 4.2.1 if you would like to. Cydia saved the key info required to reinstall the iOS even though apple / iTunes won't let you.

Here is the tutorial.

Downgrade iOS 4.3.1 to 4.2.1, 4.1, 4.3 on iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad 2 & 1, iPod touch [How To Guide] | Redmond Pie

Your purchased MyWi app can be reinstalled as well thru Cydia for no cost.

Thanks Randy. I'm headed to the airport to go to Prague in about 5 minutes. I'm not bringing my iPad so I'll check into it when I get back in ten days.

OK, I'm back in the USA. Randy, is there any updates before I delve into redoing my iphone to re-jailbreak it. I have version 4.3.2 on it currently. I looked at Cydia again, and it doesn't seem to have the My Wi-Fi software any more.

Thanks much

Thanks Randy, I tried it, and iTunes said the firmware was not compatible. I'll try again tomorrow. I probably screwed up since I was trying to do this with 9 hours of jet lag.

Randy, it worked like a charm. Thanks once again! I won't make that mistake again. I don't believe I down loaded the new firmware, I think it happened because I down loaded a movie from iTunes to my iPhone. I'll put the movies on my iPad from now on.

Randy,

The phone on my iPhone wonked out and after an hour on the phone with AT&T they suggested I restore my iPhone which I did. Which of course wiped out the jailbreak and the My-Wi. Following your excellent instructions from the past, all is now good. The phone even seems less unstable. Thanks again.

Hey Randy,

Any thoughts on upgrading to the IOS 5 and being able to jail break again and re-installing My Wi again?

As always, thanks much.

You can upgrade to 5.01 (except 4S and iPad 2) and jailbreak via Redsnow but it is a tethered jailbreak. Tethered means the phone or iPad needs a computer to boot properly. If you let the phone die or accidentally reboot it away from your PC or Mac then then phone will be partially crippled -certain native apps won't work and jailbreak features are gone. Not a perfect JB. The untethered version is supposed to be ready soon.

Let me know what you decide and I can provide more info.

This is typed on a JB iPad 1 running 5.01.

Thanks for the quick response. I think maybe I'll wait a while. I do like the My Wi feature too much to chance it. Any downsides to upgrading my IPad1? Its not jail broken. But I do want it to tether to the iPhone? Meaning can it interfere or see the jail break on the iphone?

The iPad does not need the JB. iOS 5.01 adds texting and multigestures to the first gen pads ( as well as other things). Give it a try.

Doesn't the iPhone allow tethering native now?

I think so, IF you want to pay a monthly fee for it. I tether very rarely, like at airports while I'm waiting for a flight, or at the beach.
