What's with Craiglist advertisments and no response to emails?

What's with Craiglist advertisments and no response to emails? If they don't leave a number to call, you can only email them. I've emailed 10-12 people in the past week on cars I'm interested in and gotten 2 emails back (both sold).

If it's still for sale, respond! If it's sold, delete it!

Or are they just phishing for email addresses? if so, there has to be a better way to make a living.

Rant off...

porsche4life 02-01-2011 11:20 AM

I have found that sometimes it takes two emails to get through the craigslist servers....

I hate the people that don't delete listings though...

audiman08 02-01-2011 11:26 AM

You'd think if they were serious about selling, they would include a phone number with the e-mail addy.

One lady had a BMW I was interested in. Sent her an email and no response. Sent another one several days later and it was sold that day!

Tell me about it!!!

I've had someone email back a week later asking if I'm still interested. And this is to buy a car so you'd think they'd be somewhat motivated to respond.

And it's not just Craigslist, it seems to be all the auto online sights.

HardDrive 02-01-2011 11:54 AM

Pisses me off. I've had the same experience.

It's surprising how many unmotivated sellers there are...which is probably why you see their unsold vehicles on CL or Ebay month after month.

stomachmonkey 02-01-2011 12:03 PM

Was looking for a desk a while back.

Half the emails I sent bounced.

There is something screwy with craigslist black list.

A930Rocket 02-01-2011 12:15 PM

Here's something that might be interesting if real. Seems some guy is selling his collection of cars,...

collector selling out

Worse when looking for housing. Lots of scammers trying to farm information. If the ads don't have phone #s I just flag them. There are also plenty of rip-off services posting stuff/property way under market. You call them and for a small fee you get access too...

Yeah... Try to run my expired credit card. Tells the po-po exactly where to go.

Red88Carrera 02-01-2011 03:05 PM

Craigslist has become a cesspool of scammers. That's why nobody posts phone numbers. If you've ever tried to sell anything on CL with a phone # listed in the ad, you'll likely get calls for quite a while about things unrelated to the item. I've sold alot of stuff on CL. For every 3 legit responses, there's 1 that is offering something. Your email address only stays anonymous until you respond. I always ask them to include a local phone number in the email. If not, I don't respond.

Brando 02-01-2011 03:46 PM

A burn-phone works great to field bad calls if you post on CL alot.

Red88Carrera nailed it, but I have found it only 1 out of every 6 is real.. Lots of scammers there..

I always leave tons of you hanging on craigslist. There is a reason.

Let me break it down for yall

Shall we work through a hypo?

For Sale: Highly insulated beer coozie. $10 firm. Must meet by Bills Beer Store.

Response 1: Hi, I really like what you are selling. The picture is a little unclear. Is it a true yellow or more of a yellow with a dark ochre mixed in late in the paint mixing stage? Would it be possible to take a picture with a Nikon B94-IUO/90_2 camera with a focus on the grain? Also, I spoke with my wife and she says the hybrid we bought needs work so we can only afford to spend $7.75. Furthermore, I'd like to know at what rate I can expect my drink to warm up when using this coozie? Is it lead-free? Will my dog get sick if it eats the coozie (I think about my dog all day long).

Response 2: I'll take it, $10 cash in hand, can meet at Bill's Beer House as needed. Gimmie a call 555-555-5555. Larry.

Response 3: This is Prince John Jones of the Planet Jupiter. I would like to pay $55,000 for your coozie. Can you tell if it work in good condition? If yes, I would like you to contact my shipping company and barrister immediately. I will pay you $1,000 for your coozie and you just ship me the coozie and $54,000 cash.

Here is a test, Pelicans. I will be grading you all equally. Which one would you pick and which ones will you ignore AND WHY?

audiman08 02-01-2011 04:19 PM

haha, that's great. I did get one phony call when selling a car a while ago. She said she had some people waiting to buy my car that would pay more than my asking price, if I only used her as my broker, blah. blah.

Yep, and you want to make more money......

A930Rocket 02-01-2011 05:39 PM

With all that I've sold on CL, I always list a phone number, as emails always lead to spam if responded to. No pbony calls to date.

Called on one car today and the phones voice mail box was full.

porsche4life 02-01-2011 05:42 PM

I use a Google Voice number for craigslist, with it forwarded to my cell phone. If I get tired of the calls I just turn off the forwarding.... Plus it gives me a OKC number to use in listings....

Embraer 02-01-2011 05:44 PM

when i sell stuff on craigslist, it usually sells THAT day. if somebody is serious they will come get it. otherwise, they're time wasters. last thing i sold was my erg machine. I paid $900 for it, listed it for $700, and a guy emailed me 15 minutes after posting it. within 2 hours he was at my door with the cash, no haggling, no time wasting. wish everything was like that.

+1

I have experienced the same lately shopping for a treadmill. I would appreciate a quick email saying it was already sold, etc. That is what I do for people that have responded before I have removed an ad for an item I have sold. I try to remove the ads as quickly as possible once the item has sold. Common courtesy.
