Has anyone ever used Collinite insulator wax on their car?
 

Has anyone ever used this stuff? I've heard that it is incredible, lasts a long time, and it is hard to find; Collinite won't sell it on their website.

I've been using Rejex aircraft polish on my very-low flying airplane....but I've run out and my neighbor has been using this stuff on his minivan. The shine on his van is incredible! Insulator wax is used on the ceramic insulators on high-tension lines, and it is designed to prevent flashover due to dirt that accumulates on these.

Yep great stuff. I first used it about 25 years ago. Nothing sticks. Use it on your rims to keep brake dust and crap from sticking. It was developed for use on electrical wires to prevent arching. It is often used as a mold release for fiberglass parts also. we use it on our boat. Good stuff. No bull s**t with that stuff.

I have used it several times. I guess it works pretty well but it isn't anything earth shattering. It goes on and off pretty easy with not too much effort. It is a wax, so you have to be careful of any areas of trim that will get wax buildup residue. As far as lasting. I using it on my jet black BMW and when first done it looks like glass. After a few washing and drives, it looses the gloss and you start to see the fine scratches in the black paint. Maybe for other colors this isn't an issue. Then again, no wax I use on my car looks like it does after a few washes.:(

I use Rejex on everything! Windows in the house and car, stainless steel sink and appliances, gun parts after they are cleaned, prior to reassembly, and just about everything else that has a smooth surface, the stuff is fantastic! I waxed Helga (my 911) a few times a year with Rejex and people would always ask what I used to get the car so shiny.

For years, I used Blue Coral Carnauba wax. This stuff was amazing, but it was VERY difficult to remove! I ran out of this in 2004, and it takes about 3 hours to wax your car with this, and your arm will be sore for days! Rejex gave the same shine, but it didn't last as long. The problem with Rejex is that it ISN'T a wax- it is a polish. That's fine for a car like mine, that spends all its time in a garage, but a car that spends significant time outdoors needs oil/protection for its finish. Blue Coral Carnauba was just raw carnauba wax-its protection was incredible. But it was terrible to work with! The great part of Rejex and Blue Coral Carnauba was that neither product produced a white haze. You put them on, waited 10 minutes, and then you wiped them off. There was no white in any stone chips- you just waxed the car and didn't need to concern yourself with chips.

Yeah, it works GREAT! But it isn't wax, and it is pretty expensive. The Collinite boat wax works better, and it is a wax too, so it actually protects your finish.

I pay less than $20 for a good size bottle of Rejex and I apply it very sparingly and repeat often. It protected the paint on my 911 for several years and I only rinsed the car with water, never soap and I never needed soap. I use Rejex on my alloy wheels and it helps keep the brake dust under control.

Hope Normay don't mind I am asking a related question to wax. My question should be "how to". Do you guy apply the wax. Spread it out evenly. Then clean it off to dry or leave it wet?

Good luck with it Normy. But I don't think you needed to order from Amazon it's all over the place in Ft. Lordy. Should be in just about every marine supply and auto parts store in town.

We wipe it on just about everything on the boat. Hull, windows, railings. It's great for keeping diesel exhaust from sticking to the hull.

Try and get a few good coats on relatively close to get a good barrier. Then touch up as needed.

Edit: just to clarify I use the insulator wax.

I have been using Collinite on my '82 pewter metallic SC for years and it's good for durability. Shine is ok, but not the selling proposition. For durability & protection, I recommend trying it. My car has the original paint so my #1 goal is protection.

I used the insulator wax for a while and recently switched to the 476 super double coat. Water still beads on the paint after months and it protects against dirty & road grime. Admittedly, my wax hasn't been tested in real adverse conditions.

Before switching to Collinite I used P21S, which lasted about a week, and 4 Star Ultimate Paint Protection (UPP). The UPP is a synthetic sealant, not a wax. The UPP had disappointing durability so I looked for another product. P21S has a very nice (superior) shine. I have not tried any other products because I'm happy w/the Collinite. It's possible other products perform as well, I don't know.

When I was highly motivated and had time, I applied the UPP first and put Collinite on top. That gave the best shine and lasted an entire season.

I use it on the Pcar and my Maule, works fine but doesn't hold up that well. i buy it direct from the manufacturer in Utica, NY. Easy on and off.

That's all I use. You don't get build up in the cracks and can wax anything including textured black surfaces.
