Another x-mas project for dad.... Honda Z50
My dad bought himself a shiny new yellow Honda Z50ak1 in 1970 to tool around the neighborhood on. It was the first motorcycle I ever got to ride by myself a year or two later (I was 5 and could not touch the ground so when I tired of riding in circles in the front yard, I would ride past the garage screaming for him to come out and get me stopped). Several years later I declared the bike mine and the pristine bike would never be the same (broken lights, handlebars, frame, gearshift etc).
I have restored a couple other Honda 50's for my daughters some years ago (QA50 and MR50), but I have always wanted to replace dad's yellow Z50k1 as he still enjoys putting around on ours when we have family get togethers. I was at a loss on what to get him this year for x-mas and even though my shop is full of yet to be done projects, I had a weak moment and bought this 71 Z50k2 basketcase locally on Craigslist for cheap. I will present him with the frame on x-mas day, then take it back home to start the restoration process. After restoring and giving him a Cushman Eagle that had been a basketcase several years ago, he will love it. It needs just about everything, but I will just start watching Ebay and start buying parts as they pop up. I will likely have it done to give to him again next year finished. Gonna be a busy year out in the hangar! As purchased ![]() ![]() ![]() Here is what it should look like when finished as a K1 ![]()

Great idea for a x-mas present
Couldn't help notice your Honda ATC, my 10yr old son and I are looking to buy a pair of early ATC110 trikes and restore them together

The ATC was given to me in need of some repair from sitting by an old co-worker. It is an '85 or so ATC125. I got it to "fun" race at a buddy's house who hosts a couple driveway ice races every winter. The rules are simply 4-stroke old school ATC's with no ice screws or tire chains allowed. We have 110's, 125's, 185's and 200's and have a blast each year tinkering with them to "get an advantage" for the first race of the season which is typically MLK weekend. My latest tricks were to sipe my tires and remove the seat cushion for lower CG. My buddy spends several evenings soaking his driveway to make the ice and we built a snowmaker that runs off of his pressure washer and air compressor for the berms when mother nature does not provide.
