I joined a golf club!
I've been working in Saudi Arabia for Aramco for about 9 months. They've got this amazing golf course here.
Rolling Hills Golf Course Well, I brought my clubs with me, but the green fees are ridiculous - 250 riyals plus 60 riyals for a cart - about $82! The driving range is basically free though, 1 riyal for a bucket of balls (30 cents), so I've been just banging and not playing. Well, a golf cart came up in the classified for a ridiculous price - $600. It's an old gas Ezgo, but it runs great. So I decided to join up. It's $300 to join the golf association and $1,200 for membership for a year! All in, I got a cart (no trail fee!), a years membership, not crowded at all, at a really nice course for a grand total of $2,100. Oh, and nine holes is lit so you can play until 9:00 PM. My next door neighbor paid 8,500 riyals ($2,300) for his cart alone (it's nicer than mine, but electric and batteries don't do well here). I figure when I'm ready to leave, I can get $1,000 for the cart. One drawback is that from the middle of May through about the first of September it's too hot to leave the house. So there's that. Right now it's 68 deg F though. FORE!!!

I see the course record from the blues is 68. Tough course, or a lack of really good golfers?
