Occupational Discount. (Insurance)
I have been a tradesman for the better part of 25 years.
When I changed jobs to become an instructor for my trade, I was offered (and accepted!) a significant discount on my automotive policies and my home insurance simply because my job description changed. It has kind of bugged me for about a year and I wondered if you considered this a form of discrimination against working class people. I haven't had an accident claim on my automotive or home policy for over 15 -20years, no speeding tickets in the same time frame. Shouldn't my insurance cost be based strictly on my record and not what I do for a living? Why not just lie about what you do for a living to reduce your rates?

Wow. I'd never heard of anything like that.

where you live is a biggie even in a city
guys on the wrong side of the tracks pay more north fla is half the rate we pay in south fla credit score is an other biggie the insurance game is to put you in the smallest group possible to charge the highest rates possible when I up graded to a newer volvo 940 [airbags +ABS ] fron a older 240 with no such features I expected a rate cut but got an increase even if the motor and drive train is the same in both cars |

It was interesting to find that there were discounts for what you do for a living rather than your claims record....

My mom gets a huge discount for being a teacher. Around 100$ on the 6 month premium.

Could it be when you drove to the job site with your vehicle and had tools with you?
Is the commute less? I know my insurance company dropped my rates when I bought my house because statistically the claims were lower in my new neighbourhood.

Still doesn't account for the drop in home insurance...

Oh and my previous auto policy reflected that I didn't use the truck for commuting. I do now and it is still cheaper...
