there is some discussion of them on The Samba Vanagon forum; also of the Volvo (C303?)

apparently the things are nearly unstoppable (but slow on hwy & very noisy)

I wonder if Pinzgauer cooling fans and housings cost less or are easier to acquire than an original 911 cooling fan and housing.

tatra was a good guess. the guy that bought my 911S has one of them. i think they are a flat 8 though.
