File police report = Yes or No

Came home last night for high school sports fundraiser to find offensive (male body parts) graffiti on my garage door. Grafitti was done with chalk so I cleaned it up. Obviously directed at my freshman girl... so if my house was TP'd I would shrug it off as high scholl prank. But this to me is a bit more serious......

please chime in.....................

File a report in case more serious defacement or vandalism occurs in the near future...

File a report if you took pics.

If not, don't bother.

I know it may seem silly but you never know what could happen. We had a similar incident this summer. We believe the culprit was my exSIL. (Psycho hose-beast).

We had an officer respond, just in case.

File, and should have done it last night before cleaning up.

File so its on record.

Then sit at the kitchen table cleaning the shotgun and .45 pistol the next time the boys come over.

Yes get it on record. You don't have to act on it. But at least it will be documented.

I had a few calls to my daughter on her cell phone. The kid used the standard line, "I can tell you who I am but I would have to kill you".

At 12 years old....it ain't funny. Filed a police report, cops would do nothing. I traced the call and spoke with the Dad. Told him if the little schittzle came near my kid, he would have have problems being a grandfather.

Kid was later arrested for torching a classroom....little asshat.

"Freshman girl" is the key for me.

Log it with the police, get a game camera and place it innocuously. You'll be amazed at what you'll find.

We had a spate of mail box baseball when my daughter (very attractive and no, no pics) was a Frosh/Soph.

The pictures were perfect. The young lads father and I had a quick exchange (good dude) and problem solved.

Since you've removed the evidence they'll likely take it over the phone (or even let you file it yourself online depending on the dept).

It will accomplish nothing and no they're not likely to "investigate" it, but.....if this kid does something else you'll have a documented history to some degree. Obvioulsy you can't prove who it was but if it fits a pattern it will help you get a PPO/Restraining order against the lil bastid.

Get a video surveillance system. I went to pick up a tool at AutoZone last night and had to take the 993, as my wife's Mini was on jackstands. As I came around the first corner on my street, two kids were sitting on the tailgate of their dad's pickup truck holding a paintball gun. Now I am very nervous, but at least I know where one of them lives. And my nextdoor neighbor also got some dicks painted on his pickup truck a few mos. ago. But then I never leave any vehicle outdoors unless I'm working in the garage. I really need to get some cameras.

I'll be the dissenter here.....post the photos....for a better opinion.

It sounds like the kind of thing that, well, freshmen would do....especially if the can't find rolls of toilet paper.

From the comments, I think we are pretty quick to react and file police reports, etc, etc. What did *we* do as kids? Then again, there are some nut balls out there.

About a week after July 4 some kids came down to my street (end of the neighborhood, dead end street, not on the way to anything) and stuck some kind of fireworks in my neighbor's mailbox at about 10pm. We did call the police for that, but had already jumped in the car ourselves and found some kids running around at the hour.

File. If the harassment gets worse you want a documented history.

Let me get this straight, you feel that this is a bit more serious than TP? Honestly?
Was anything damaged?

Like TP, all you had to do is clean it up. The thing is, chalk washes away. Picture the mess you would have had if they TP'd you right and it rained. Have you ever had that done to you? I'm thinking no because if you did, you'd pick the chalk-job over the tp-job.

This sounds more prankish. I understand that you do not feel it was in good taste, but nevertheless it seems to not cross the line of prank/vandalism.

Worry about it once the line is crossed. Go back to enjoying life and spending quality time with your daughter and family!

I agree, even TP is a ridiculously stupid stunt that should be reported. It was when I was a kid 40 years ago. If kids get away with it they will continue to escalate to more serious shlt! Next thing they will be knocking over the mail box and driving on your lawn.

Meh- it's what kids do. If you make a big deal of it your daughter may take the brunt of this all when she gets to school. It also shows they got to you and kids thrive on that.

wash it off, let it go. If things happen that start to cost money then ya do something but not until then.

Really?

So TP is a 'gateway' to lawn jobs?

Perhaps a teaspoon of Metamucil in your coffee would help...
