New Tire Warrenty question--??

I just bought some new tires for my wife's car. A chain ,NTB, mounted and sold them today. Before I bought, manager says "these 225/60/16's are warrented for 55,000 miles, which I think is a good range for a tire. After they're on, I noticed the tire tag stating it's a 45,000 miles tire. I asked about this and they said, the computer has it at 55,000. Now I know if they go bald at 45,000, the store will only probably give me 20 bucks woth or warrenty. I just dont feel right about this. Am I off my rocker, what would you do/say to them. Just curious.

check the MFR's website on the tires, or hopefully the receipt says they are warranted to 55K miles.

Go with whatever is in print.

NTB have a bit of a rep for scams.

Granted they are a national chain and there will be complaints, some valid some not.

I've goten to like my local Discount TIre.

Good guys there, no BS, no upselling just service.

Thanks. We are a small town without much choice. Paperwork all says 55,000 so I guess thats good. I'll keep Discount Tire in mind next time I need some.

Be sure to retorque the lugs in a week or less... some of those discount tire stores are a bit funky with their installations.

In my opinion, tire and battery warranties are a ruse to make you come back to the same store and buy the same tires when they wear out. They give you 10 or 20 percent discount to make you come back.

Sometimes the retailer will add a warranty for marketing purposes. If the MFR says their warranty is 45k and NTB says their's is 55k, then you have a 45k nationwide warranty and a 55k warranty if you take it back to NTB (and give them the first chance to sell you new tires).

They must have been pretty cheap tires to have a 45K mile rating on a 225/60-16, so don't sweat the little details as the 10-20% pro-rate doesn't amount to enough to sway your repurchase decision to NTB.

Best case scenario if they go bald at 45k miles is they'll give you a 20% credit toward more tires, since that's what would be left of the warranty. And as I found out the hard way last week at Discount Tire, those warranties only work if the tires are evenly worn and/or you can document having rotated them on schedule. The Discount Tire employee took pity on my wife and gave her $40 off for her loyalty. But Those Contis were shot after 20k miles, one of them a lot more so than the other and I did rotate them.

Or un-torque them.

I was stuck roadside once with nuts I could not remove due to over-torquing. Not fun.
