Given those definitions, I have Agreed Value with State Farm.
id10t says that SF allows him no mileage limits on driving, however I thought there was a limit. I remember that they called me a few years ago for an odometer statement. |
I have Grundy - haven't had to use it though.
They restrict to 'hobby' use - no errands, no DD, but they do allow pleasure driving (like driving up to Aspen for dinner) along with car show events. However, before I got it I wanted to know if they cover 'toy day' at work, and they do. I work for a company that manufactures performance suspension parts, and most of the guys here have toys - so a few times each summer we have 'take your toy to work' day. Grundy was fine with insuring the cars when I drove them to work on those days. |
To Hagerty from me:
Where the coverage says "Is used only infrequently for other purposes" can that mean infrequently as a "Regular use vehicle"? I have picked my kids up from school a couple of times, stopped at the store and have driven my Hagerty insured car to work to attend the car club meetings after work to save on the 50 mile round trip to return home to get the vehicle to drive back to the meeting/activity. Under these conditions, would my insurance through Hagerty not be covered? From Hagerty(I wanted an email so I had something in writing from them): Thank you for your recent email! Our policy is a flexible but limited use policy. We do not limit you to just show and club use. Occasional pleasure driving fits our underwriting guidelines, but our policy is not intended for vehicles regularly driven to work or school or for running errands. We look for usage that is consistent with owning a valuable automobile and the availability of insured regular use vehicles for daily transportation. Your insurance would cover you during the activities you describe in your email. If you have additional questions, please feel free to call our office at (800)922-4050 and any one of our friendly agents will be happy to assist you. We are open Monday - Friday 8:30am - 8pm, Saturday 8:30am - 4pm and Sunday 12pm - 4pm (Eastern). i have an agreed value collector policy with state farm. it costs me about $130 per year with a $35k value. 5k mileage limit annually, must have historical plates and a dd. driving is limited to shows, club events, etc etc but the key item is testing runs. with a 25+ year old car i am always fixing or replacing something, so test drives are always needed. one nice thing i found last year is that DE events are covered as it is a learning experience and not a race.

Or did you get the policy more than a couple of years ago? B/c AAA says they have now changed to require the car be a '71 or prior. It used to be the car only needed to be 20 years or older. |
I have six cars insured with Haggerty as collectors with realistic declared values and the total premium is $348. That's right $348/year.
Comp and collision. 100,00, 300,000 914-6 Apollo GT500 63 Ranchero 59 rebodied Corvette (Shark) 29 Ford A b Bucket (350 hp Corvette engine) 1973 Lotus Elan +2 I was thinking about adding my 70T as soon as it is finished ($49 addition). Strange thing is, they limit you to 400 miles per year but don't ask for odometer reading? |

I asked them why it was so high, I told them I've heard about their rates being low. She said it's because the Ferrari is an "exotic." I told her I wasn't sure of that, and it is certainly no 928, but she wouldn't budge. |
Not bad for the six cars.....do they let you look at them and/or sit on the seats and make vroom, vroom noises?
When I was building my first hot VW, me and my bro used to sit in the seats, turn on the tunes and huff a roofer......pretending we were on our way to a Jethro Tull concert. I had a 12v power supply that ran the tunes......the 40hp engine was on a cart waiting on $$ to finish the heads. Still got that power supply and cart.....good times, no insurance. My Dadz home owners covered the fire....but that's another story. |
I switched to Grundy's for the 911SC + 914 GT clone. Agreed value of 30k each for reasonable price. I don't drive them to work.

I'm happy. around $300/yr for the Pcar. Go anywhere I want. No coverage when on the track. |

About 2-3 years ago, SF re-wrote them to eliminate track events of all kinds. Check this thread: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/436804-insurance-de-events.html Quote:

That sux about not being able to insure your cars. I didn't mean to send you on a wild goose chase. |
Yeah, CAC is their collector policy. You apparently got lucky, and got in under the wire before the AAA policy changed. I told her I knew someone with an '87 (you!) with the collector policy. She said they would renew, but not write new policies. So don't let that policy lapse! If you tried to get that policy today as a new customer, you would be turned down.
I have no problem insuring the cars, it's just my current policy became quite a bit more than it was before. I had Sneed, and they were bought out by another company, who is really raising the rates. Around double. So far, the lowest I've found is Leland West, at $715 for both cars. So about $360/yr each, which isn't bad (still, it's more than I was paying with Sneed. At Sneed, my 911 was less than $100/YEAR b/c of their multicar discount!) |
Some one from Haggerty who is on this forum contacted me and said they will look into why I was turned down. So maybe they changed there mind once they figured out who I was!!! I'm not just any James Brown!
