The 14 billion dollar dune buggy...........................do you know how many conventional sandrails that would buy?
|
do you know what the range and observables are on a conventional sandrail?
you need to think straight on the cost too |

14 ba-ba-billion? For an open tube frame hybrid...without a solar recharging array and/or storage for extended missions.
Granted, the company is located in a conservative county, north of the big-D in MI, but there are some questions: 1). Why is the latest military tech posted on the internet? 2). What willl keep the ground soldiers from finishing their mission(aka being killed)? 3). Would giving $14million of seed money to 1,000 Michigan/other companies produce a better end product? |

I think they got the $ number wrong. The article does not state how much this cost, but the whole R&D budget isn't anywhere near $14Billion.
This is just an R&D platform. Too heavy, and in no way survivable. But the military does invest in advanced technologies that eventually make it into the private sector, so like NASA in the 60s, there is a public payoff with these research and development dollars. By the way, they mention JP8 as jet fuel--that is the standard diesel that the military uses in all it's trucks, HMMWVs, tanks, helicopters, etc. |

Senior Vice President work costs extra. |
don't get confused - the $$ no doubt reflect all pgm costs to develop this R&D platform vehicle
if and when CERV goes to production, costs/vehicle will be a lot less of course, if you want the very best, most capable military that money can buy, you need to pump out some bucks now, what DO you want?? |
