Taking / Selling a CALIF Porsche in Europe?

guys -

I'm planning a European trip this summer - and I'm struck with how many of the rust-free CA cars wind up over there - mid-70's 911's and such. IF there is a large market over there, and since we'll need a car for our trip this summer anyway - is there a chance to take one with us, drive it while we're there, and deliver to the new owner at the end of the trip? Are the logistics of this too much brain damage?

If possible - how do you find a potential buyer?

thoughts?

Europe is not one country, so you can't advertise in one place and reach all of it.
Except maybe if you list it on ebay..

But i'm not clear what you want to do, you want to drive your Porsche around Europe, then sell ti. Or do you have a regular trip in Europe, and you will sell/ship the car unrelated to that trip? It matters because of customs and import duties..
Well not really, but some creative options might exist for those who feel like it if you bring it to drive it yourself.

I spent all my money on guns & ammo, so i can't buy it.

Wasn't there a Road & Track article from a couple years back where a couple did exactly that with an MG? They had planned the sale from before they left the States. Then they shipped the car over, drove it around for a couple weeks, and delivered it (unscathed) to the new owner. Sounded very romantic, but it would have been very stressful for me always worrying about accident/mechanical damage.

Tell you what. If you do this trip and can't sell it, rent a storage unit and leave the keys in it and let me drive it when I go over. I'll even drive it around with a FOR SALE sign on it but you have to supply the gas.

LOL - oh great - I can see this evolving into something interesting.

So lemme get this right - if I go to all the trouble of bringing a car with me to Europe, I a) have a place to store it and b) all my PPOT buddies can share in it when THEY go to over there?!

seems like a great plan.....let's see how this unfolds. I'm thinking 'group buy' on something interesting for us all?

If you decide upon a 917K or 918, I'm in.

You would have to sell ahead of time. Which may be complicated. You will not be able to collect the money if you still use the car. It would have to be some down payment / promise to buy. Worst that could happen is that you are taking it back if the buyer flakes.

What kind of $$$ value were you thinking? I have a friend in Germany who is looking for an inexpensive SC Targa. If that's up your alley, keep me in the loop.

Thanks for the response - yah, that is exactly what I'm thinking - there are some sweet deals on SCs or late 70's 911 all the time in CA. I'd guess that for low to mid-teens you could get a decent SC in good shape....with time to shop and a willing buyer at the other end, it seems a deal should be able to be done!

If your friend is interested - you could send me some spec's of what he's looking for and I can start to keep my eyes open....

thanks
