Pelican signature issue

Take a look at my signature. There's a URL there that points to a Pelican thread, but it should be displayed as a link, not a URL string. I see lots of others with links in their sigs, so what's up with mine?? I've tried over and over with different URLs and none work. When I go to the Edit Signature page, at the bottom the permissions show this:

Is anything wrong here?

If I'm not mistaken that feature has to be activated by Wayne or perhaps a moderator can do it.

It's possible Wayne made a change or it was changed after an upgrade. It's happened with another feature as well. I was able to skirt the 5 line rule in signatures and had 6 until the system was upgraded at some point, then I made a change and it caught up to me....

I had no problem with the HTML in my signature line a couple of years ago.

Wayne, I'm not sure what you mean...I don't know what BB code or html code is. All I want to do is copy and paste a URL into my signature and have it show up as a link, just like the ones in your signature. I have done this with my Pelican signature in the past. Are you saying this is no longer possible because of a change you made recently?

Paul_Heery 02-18-2011 05:26 AM

I believe for what you want to do, this is what you need:

Hang on. the code switch didn't work properly. Let me take a pic and post it

cstreit 02-18-2011 05:40 AM

Let us do the work for you then. ;)

Put this code into your signature

I get the message "BB code url is not allowed." when I try to put a link in my sig...

I was just trying to update my sig and got the same thing. What's the official answer? Is BB url code allowed or not?

PNine64 06-26-2011 08:15 AM

I am curious about this too. I tried to add the following text to my signature:

[URL=http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/964-forum/518813-the-ultimate-964-targa-thread.html]THE ULTIMATE 964 TARGA THREAD[/URL (left out last "]")

which should result in:

THE ULTIMATE 964 TARGA THREAD

But it doesn't allow me to save it (BB URL error). Thoughts? TIA, Travis

I'm not getting a BB URL error anymore, but putting a link to another thread in my signature still isn't working.

masraum 06-26-2011 08:43 AM

I believe the ability was turned off a while back. If you had a URL in you sig, it'll stay, but you can't add new urls.

I hope I'm wrong. If so, someone please show me what we're missing.

Mr Beau 08-01-2012 10:39 AM

This still appears to be turned off. Any plans to re-enable it?

That is my understanding. I can't change my sig, or I lose the link to the presidential thread...

So if the BB does not support [url] error shows up, are the ones that have links in their signatures ones that existed prior?

I was dumb and deleted mine as one of them went to webshots which shut down and now I lost the one that linked to my Pelican Gallery.

Yes, folks that haven't tried to change their signature since the change are grandfathered in until the first time they try to make a change, and then they are screwed.

i've had my garage linked in my signature since the garages were introduced. before that I linked other stuff from there. SmileWavy

ARGH!!

I should have just deleted the bad link and left my garage link. If you look at the "authorized" codes, the URL has a "no" next to it.

That being said, when people post links to parts and what not, they are able to do so. Maybe only the signature is not allowed?

Exactly, the posting of URLs is only disabled in our signatures. It's fine for posts.
