Good news for a gout sufferer!

Wow! I just got my latest labs today and my SUA (serum uric acid) went from 6.5 to 4.3 while taking 300mg of Allopurinol daily. The lower the number, the better for gout sufferers since the uric acid crystals forming around the joints (big toe and shoulder, in my case) cause excruciating pain and deformed joints. My liver enzymes were a little higher then I would like them to be, but nothing like they were before I started my semi-vegetarian, no alcohol or high fructose corn syrup diet.

I still get minor pains and twinges in my toes and shoulder and I take 220mg of Aleve (OTC) for that, but not very often.

Overall I'm very happy with the results of the labs and I attribute the lower SUA to the 300mg daily dose of Allopurinol.

No alcohol, my liver isn't healthy and the diet/lifestyle keeps it under control...

Allopurinol can initiate a gout attack when you first start taking it.

I'm on 600mg a day, can feel a bit of gout in my left thumb. Back to the Dr....

When I 1st started on the Allopurinol, I had mild attacks for the 1st three months and then they tapered off.

If you go by the "you are what you eat" theory: Freeze all chicken bones, simmer off and on for about 24 hours in spices(ss pot), blender, and you have a good soup base.

Great that it is working for you. How is your creatinine? Keep close eye on your liver enzymes and watch for skin rash that can get out of control quickly.

Kidneys failed 5 years ago. Got "new" one 2yrs ago. Take care of them, very strict veggie diet can help them immensely.

Try using "DMSO" friend of mine had very severe gout with intense pain, started
applying the Dmso and the pain disappeared in about 2 weeks......

Thanks! I'm glad you're doing well with your "new" kidney! So far, my kidneys and the associated labs look good, but we do keep an eye on them. The owner of my company had a kidney transplant (PKD) about 18 months ago and he's doing great. We talk often and share experiences as he also had gout.

Thanks, but I do not want to try DMSO as I have a liver condition that requires that I minimize the drugs I take. I only tale Aleve when I absolutely have to...
