F1 Opener canceled

F1 opener in Bahrain has, as was expected, been canceled.

How will this work out for BE? F1?

Are other venues at risk?

GH85Carrera 02-21-2011 07:16 AM

I suspect any event in that part of the world will be suspect.

That's what Bernie gets for going for the big bucks and new markets.

Not good for the Bahrainis. The GP is a huge money maker for them.

Damn, and I was looking forward to D'ambrosio's first race...

Best thing that could have happened.
I was listening to Ecclestone on the radio and all he was bothered about was his race. Totally unbothered about the plight of the people over there.

An obnoxious little twat if ever there was one.

Huge money maker, but not for the people. That's the overlying argument; that the government can do things like sink money into car races, but not the Bahrain infrastructure.

If Bernie were smart, he'd hold one, two or even three F1 races in the U.S., where really, the money will be guaranteed as there is already a strong F1 fan base here.

It would be telling if Ecclestone, after granting Bahrain a pass, eventually fines them big money for breaking their contract.

I would fine them if I were he. It's Bahrain's govt's fault all this happened, and in turn, killed the race.

Any chance he will move it to a later date in the US ?

Took you this long to figure this out? He is an AZZ of the highest order and the sooner he is out of F1, the better.

Not exactly what I heard. Oil and pearls are no.1 and Arab tourism is no. 2. The monarchy spent tons of money to bring about the F1 race. It's their loss in income, or repayment of debt. I'm sure it could be absorbed in a fairly short time.

Meanwhile, the Arab tourists will flock there all year long. The race is 3 days.

I'd be worried about the other 362.
