PCI express 16x is 8,000 mb/s serial "Thumper" is around 780 mbs and it's asynchronous. Not a good idea for sending video. If you've ever used a USB video adapter before that will give you an idea of how slow it would be.

PCI express x32 is making it's way to the market this year as well. That will be 32 lanes serial 16,000 / 2 lanes.
