Dana Point Pelican, from a Dana Point Pelican

Just received a wonderful surprise in the mail.

A beautiful carving of a Pelican, from a Pelican client and friend:

Thanks Dean!

Excellent! do you still have the "A's Burgers" place in Dana Point? I used to get carne asada burritos there , way back in '88-91 when I was stationed at Camp Pendleton.

Rika-

I don't think I'd be announcing that you've seen his lizard, ya know?

Sorry Sammy, I lied, the very first one went to Pelican Parts.
I have a vice and real tools now, no more bandaids

azasadny Excellent! do you still have the "A's Burgers" place in Dana Point?
Still there, I have a BLT there about once a week

Eric, glad you liked it, and they were all a little different, this was the most in depth, taken from pictures I took of Pelicans in the harbor.

Thanks for the comments

very nice work.

My uncle (now gone) was an ex-Marine, did gun-smithing and was an excellent carver.

Man, I had long forgotten about A's Burgers! What a small world that a guy in MI was in CA and made it to A's.

A friend of mine went to look at the Vanagon Dean has for sale and reported back to me about the wood carvings. He said they were pretty spectacular.

Care to post a couple more pics Dean? I mean the pelican is out of the bag now.

Unlike cars, even a bad photo makes them look good, I don't like pictures of this stuff, makes me think I should have put more time in it. But, Milt, here is one I called "The March of the Penguins" a take off of NatGeo, notice the left flipper. It's on a piece of Banksia from New Zealand.

I don't know much, but I know what I like...and I admire expression in any media.

Nice. Very nice, Dean.

When I was stationed at Camp Pendleton, my wife and I would drive up the coast to visit our friends in Irvine and we made it a point to stop at A's burgers and get carne asada burritos. It made the trip in the horrible traffic worth it!!

Jeez, that was 20 years ago and you thought traffic was bad then? But, if the people-Surf Rider Foundation- would have allowed the toll road to go through to the 5 even now the traffic would be lighter.
